Context of Judges 3:28
26Now Ehud escaped while they were hesitating, and he passed by the idols and escaped to Seirah. 27And when he arrived, he blew the trumpet in the hill country of Ephraim; and the sons of Israel went down with him from the hill country, and he was leading them. Then he said to them, “Pursue them, for the Lord has handed your enemies the Moabites over to you.” So they went down after him and took control of the crossing places of the Jordan opposite Moab, and did not allow anyone to cross. 29They struck and killed about ten thousand Moabites at that time, all robust and valiant men; and no one escaped. 30So Moab was subdued that day under the hand of Israel. And the land was at rest for eighty years.

- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 28Took the fords of Jordan - It is very likely that the Moabites, who were on the western side of Jordan, hearing of the death of Eglon, were panic-struck, and endeavored to escape over Jordan at the fords near Jericho, when Ehud blew his trumpet in the mountains of Ephraim, and thus to get into the land of the Moabites, which lay on the east of Jordan; but Ehud and his men, seizing the only pass by which they could make their escape, slew ten thousand of…Read the comment

- Matthew Henry Concise Commentary · v. 12-30Verses 12-30 When Israel sins again, God raises up a new oppressor. If lesser troubles do not do the work, God will send greater. When Israel prays again, God raises up Ehud.
