John 7:31-53
31But 1many of the crowd believed in Him; and they were saying, “2When the 3Christ comes, He will not perform more 45signs than those which this man has done, will He?”
32The Pharisees heard the crowd whispering these things about Him, and the chief priests and the Pharisees sent 6officers to 7arrest Him. 33Therefore Jesus said, “8For a little while longer I am going to be with you, and then 9I am going to Him who sent Me. 3410You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come.” 3511The Jews then said to one another, “12Where does this Man intend to go that we will not find Him? He does not intend to go to 13the Dispersion among 14the Greeks, and teach the Greeks, does He? 36What is this statement that He said, ‘15You will seek Me, and will not find Me; and where I am, you cannot come’?”
37Now on 16the last day, the great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “17If anyone is thirsty, 18let him come to Me and drink. 38The one who believes in Me, 19as the Scripture said, ‘20From his innermost being will flow rivers of 21living water.’” 39But this He said 22in reference to the Spirit, whom those who believed in Him were to receive; for 23the Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet 24glorified.
40Some of the people therefore, after they heard these words, were saying, “This truly is 25the Prophet.” 41Others were saying, “This is the 26Christ.” But others were saying, “27Surely the 28Christ is not coming from Galilee, is He? 42Has the Scripture not said that the Christ comes from 29the descendants of David, and from Bethlehem, the village where David was?” 43So 30a dissension occurred in the crowd because of Him. 44And 31some of them wanted to arrest Him, but no one laid hands on Him.
45The 32officers then came to the chief priests and Pharisees, and they said to them, “Why did you not bring Him?” 46The 33officers answered, “34Never has a man spoken in this way!” 47The Pharisees then replied to them, “35You have not been led astray too, have you? 4836Not one of 37the rulers or Pharisees has believed in Him, has he? 49But this crowd that does not know the Law is accursed!” 5038Nicodemus (the one who came to Him before, being one of them) said to them, 51“39Our Law does not judge the person unless it first hears from him and knows what he is doing, does it?” 52They answered and said to him, “40You are not from Galilee as well, are you? Examine the Scriptures, and see that no prophet arises out of Galilee.” 53[[41And everyone went to his home.
