John 4:1-9

1So then, when 1the Lord knew that the Pharisees had heard that 2He was making and 3baptizing more disciples than John 2(although 4Jesus Himself was not baptizing; rather, His 5disciples were), 3He left 6Judea and went away 7again to Galilee. 4And He had to pass through 8Samaria. 5So He came to a city of 9Samaria called Sychar, near 10the parcel of land that 11Jacob gave to his son Joseph; 6and Jacob’s well was there. So Jesus, tired from His journey, was just sitting by the well. It was about 12the sixth hour.

7A woman of Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give Me a drink.” 8For His 13disciples had gone away to 14the city to buy food. 9So the 15Samaritan woman said to Him, “How is it that You, though You are a Jew, are asking me for a drink, though I am a Samaritan woman?” (For 16Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
