Genesis 35:1-4
1Then God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to 1Bethel and live there, and make an altar there to 2God, who appeared to you 3when you fled 4from your brother Esau.” 2So Jacob said to his 5household and to all who were with him, “Remove 6the foreign gods which are among you, and 7purify yourselves and change your garments; 3and let’s arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make 8an altar there to God, 9who answered me on the day of my distress and 10has been with me 11wherever I have gone.” 4So they gave Jacob all the foreign gods which 12they had and the rings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the 13oak which was near Shechem.
