Exodus 20:19-21

191Then they said to Moses, “Speak 2to us yourself and we will listen; but do not have God speak 3to us, or we will die!” 20However, Moses said to the people, “4Do not be afraid; for God has come in order 5to test you, and in order that 6the fear of Him may 7remain with you, so that you will not sin.” 21So the people stood at a distance, while Moses approached 8the thick darkness where God was.
