Be Imitators of God

11Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2and 2walk in love, just as Christ also 3loved 4you and 5gave Himself up for us, an 6offering and a sacrifice to God 7as a 8fragrant aroma.

3But 9sexual immorality 10or any impurity or greed must not even be mentioned among you, as is proper among 11saints; 4and there must be no 12filthiness 13or foolish talk, or vulgar joking, which 14are not fitting, but rather 15giving of thanks. 5For this you know with certainty, that 16no sexually immoral or 17impure or greedy person, which 18amounts to an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom 19of Christ and God.

620See that no one deceives you with empty words, for because of these things 21the wrath of God comes upon 22the 23sons of disobedience. 7Therefore do not become 24partners with them; 8for 25you were once 26darkness, but now you are light in the Lord; walk as 27children of light 9(for 28the fruit of the light consists in all 29goodness, righteousness, and truth), 103031as you try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 1132Do not participate in the useless 33deeds of 34darkness, but instead even 35expose them; 12for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret. 13But all things become visible 36when they are exposed by the light, for everything that becomes visible is light. 14For this reason 37it says, “38Awake, sleeper, And arise from 39the dead, And Christ 40will shine on you.”

15So then, 41be careful how you 42walk, not 43as unwise people but as wise, 164445making the most of your time, because 46the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but 47understand what the will of the Lord is. 18And 48do not get drunk with wine, 49in which there is 50debauchery, but be 51filled with the Spirit, 1952speaking to 53one another in 54psalms and 55hymns and spiritual 56songs, 57singing and making melody with your hearts to the Lord; 2058always giving thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to our 59God and Father; 216061and subject yourselves to one another in the 6263fear of Christ.

Marriage like Christ and the Church

2264Wives, 65subject yourselves to your own husbands, 66as to the Lord. 23For 67the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the 68head of the church, He Himself 69being the Savior of the body. 24But as the church is subject to Christ, so also the wives ought to be to their husbands in everything.

2570Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and 71gave Himself up for her, 2672so that He might sanctify her, having 73cleansed her by the 74washing of water with 75the word, 27that He might 76present to Himself the church 77in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be 78holy and blameless. 28So husbands also ought to 79love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church, 30because we are 80parts of His 81body. 3182For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. 32This mystery is great; but I am speaking with reference to Christ and the church. 33Nevertheless, as for you individually, each husband is to 83love his own wife the same as himself, and the wife must see to it that she 84respects her husband.
