Amos 5:5-15

5But do not 1resort to 2Bethel And do not come to 3Gilgal, Nor cross over to 4Beersheba; For Gilgal will certainly go into captivity And Bethel will 5come to nothing.6 6Seek the Lord so that you may live, Or He will break through like a 7fire, 8house of Joseph, And it will consume with no one to extinguish it for Bethel,7For those who turn 9justice into wormwood, And 10throw righteousness to the earth.”

8He who made the 11Pleiades and Orion, And 12changes deep darkness into morning, 13Who also 14darkens day into night, Who 15calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the surface of the earth, The 16Lord is His name.9It is He who 17makes destruction flash upon the strong, So that 18destruction comes upon the fortress.

10They hate him who 19rebukes in the 20gate, And they 21despise him who speaks with integrity.11Therefore because you impose heavy 22rent on the poor And take a tribute of grain from them, Though you have built 23houses of cut stone, Yet you will not live in them; You have planted beautiful vineyards, yet you will 24not drink their wine.12For I know your offenses are many and your sins are great, You who are 25hostile to the righteous and accept bribes, And 26turn away the poor from justice at the 27gate.13Therefore at 28such a time the prudent person 29keeps quiet, because it is an evil time.

14Seek good and not evil, so that you may live; And so may the Lord God of armies be with you, 30Just as you have said!15 31Hate evil, love good, And establish justice in the 32gate! Perhaps the Lord God of armies 33Will be gracious to the 34remnant of Joseph.
