Acts 2:3-47
3And tongues that looked like fire appeared to them, 1distributing themselves, and a tongue 2rested on each one of them. 4And they were all 3filled with the Holy Spirit and began to 4speak with different 5tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.
5Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, 6devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And when 7this sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own 8language. 79They were amazed and astonished, saying, “10Why, are not all these who are speaking 11Galileans? 8And how is it that we each hear them in our own 12language 13to which we were born? 9Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and 14Cappadocia, 15Pontus and 1617Asia, 1018Phrygia and 19Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around 20Cyrene, and 2122visitors from Rome, both Jews and 2324proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs--we hear them speaking in our own 25tongues of the mighty deeds of God.” 12And 26they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But others were jeering and saying, “27They are full of 28sweet wine!”
14But Peter, taking his stand with 29the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, 30know this, and pay attention to my words. 15For these people are not drunk, as you assume, 31since it is only the 32third hour of the day; 16but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:17‘33And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour out My Spirit on all 34mankind; And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, And your young men will see visions, And your old men will 35have dreams;18And even on My male and female 36servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, And they will prophesy.19And I will 37display wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, fire, and 38vapor of smoke.20The sun will be turned into darkness And the moon into blood, Before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.21And it shall be that 39everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’
22“Men of Israel, listen to these words: 40Jesus the Nazarene, 41a Man 42attested to you by God with 43miracles and 44wonders and 45signs which God performed through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves know-- 23this Man, delivered over by the 46predetermined plan and foreknowledge of God, 47you nailed to a cross by the hands of 48godless men and put Him to death. 2449But 50God raised Him from the dead, putting an end to the 51agony of death, since it 52was impossible for Him to be held 53in its power. 25For David says of Him, ‘54I saw the Lord continually before me, Because He is at my right hand, so that I will not be shaken.26Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue was overjoyed; Moreover my flesh also will live in hope;27For You will not abandon my soul to 55Hades, 56Nor will You 57allow Your 58Holy One to 59undergo decay.28You have made known to me the ways of life; You will make me full of gladness with Your presence.’
29“60Brothers, I may confidently say to you regarding the 61patriarch David that he both 62died and 63was buried, and 64his tomb is 65with us to this day. 30So because he was 66a prophet and knew that 67God had sworn to him with an oath to seat one 68of his descendants on his throne, 31he looked ahead and spoke of the resurrection of the 69Christ, that 70He was neither abandoned to Hades, nor did His flesh 71suffer decay. 32It is this Jesus whom 72God raised up, 73a fact to which we are all 74witnesses. 33Therefore, 75since He has been exalted 7677at the right hand of God, and 78has received 79the promise of the Holy Spirit from the Father, He has 80poured out this which you both see and hear. 34For it was not David who ascended into 81heaven, but he himself says: ‘82The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,35Until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.”’ 36Therefore let all the 83house of Israel know for certain that God has made Him both 84Lord and 85Christ--this Jesus 86whom you crucified.”
37Now when they heard this, they were 87pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “88Brothers, 89what are we to do?” 38Peter said to them, “90Repent, and each of you be 91baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For 92the promise is for you and your children and for all who are 93far away, as many as the Lord our God will call to Himself.” 40And with many other words he solemnly 94testified and kept on urging them, saying, “95Be saved from this 96perverse generation!” 41So then, those who had received his word were baptized; and that day there were added about three thousand 9798souls. 42They were 99continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to 100the breaking of bread and 101to 102prayer.
43103Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many 104wonders and 105signs were taking place through the apostles. 44And all the believers 106were together and 107had all things in common; 45and they 108would sell their property and possessions and share them with all, to the extent that anyone had need. 46109Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and 110breaking bread 111from house to house, they were taking their 112meals together with gladness and 113sincerity of heart, 47praising God and 114having favor with all the people. And the Lord 115was adding to 116their number day by day 117those who were being saved.
