2 Peter 3:4-13

4and saying, “1Where is the promise of His 2coming? For ever since the fathers 34fell asleep, all things continue just as they were 5from the beginning of creation.” 5For 6when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that 7by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was 8formed out of water and by water, 6through which 9the world at that time was 10destroyed by being flooded with water. 7But by His word 11the present heavens and earth are being reserved for 12fire, kept for 13the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly people.

8But do not let this one fact escape your notice, 14beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and 15a thousand years like one day. 916The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but 17is patient toward you, 18not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. 10But 19the day of the Lord 20will come like a thief, in which 21the heavens 22will pass away with a roar and the 23elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and 24the earth and 25its works will be 26discovered.

11Since all these things are to be destroyed in this way, what sort of people ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, 1227looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which 28the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the 29elements will melt with intense heat! 13But according to His 30promise we are looking for 31new heavens and a new earth, 32in which righteousness dwells.
