2 Corinthians 4

Paul’s Apostolic Ministry

1Therefore, since we have this 1ministry, as we 2received mercy, we 3do not lose heart, 2but we have renounced the 4things hidden because of shame, not walking in trickery nor 5distorting the word of God, but by the open proclamation of the truth 6commending ourselves to every person’s conscience in the sight of God. 3And even if our 7gospel is 8veiled, it is veiled 9to 10those who are perishing, 4in whose case 11the god of 12this 13world has 14blinded the minds of the unbelieving so that 15they will not see the 16light of the gospel of the 17glory of Christ, who is the 18image of God. 5For we 19do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves as your bond-servants 20on account of Jesus. 6For God, who said, “21Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has 22shone in our hearts to give the 23Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.

7But we have this treasure in 2425earthen containers, so that the extraordinary greatness of 26the power will be of God and not from ourselves; 8we are 27afflicted in every way, but not 28crushed; 29perplexed, but not despairing; 930persecuted, but not 31abandoned; 32struck down, but not destroyed; 1033always carrying around in the body the dying of Jesus, so that 34the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. 11For we who live are constantly being handed over to death because of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our mortal flesh. 12So death works in us, but life in you.

13But having the same 35spirit of faith, according to what is written: “36I believed, therefore I spoke,” we also believe, therefore we also speak, 14knowing that He who 37raised the Lord Jesus 38will also raise us with Jesus, and will 39present us with you. 15For all things are 40for your sakes, so that grace, having 4142spread to more and more people, will cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God.

16Therefore we 43do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our 44inner person is 45being renewed day by day. 17For our momentary, 46light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, 18while we 47look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
