1 Timothy 6:9-19

91But those who want to get rich fall into temptation and 2a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires which plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10For 3the love of money is a root of all 4sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have 5wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many 6griefs.

11But 7flee from these things, you 8man of God, and pursue righteousness, godliness, 9faith, 10love, 11perseverance, and gentleness. 1212Fight the good fight of 13faith; 14take hold of the eternal life 15to which you were called, and for which you made the good 16confession in the presence of 17many witnesses. 1318I direct you in the presence of God, who 19gives life to all things, and of 20Christ Jesus, who testified the 21good confession 22before Pontius Pilate, 14that you keep the commandment without 23fault or reproach until the 24appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15which He will 25bring about at 26the proper time--He who is 27the blessed and 28only Sovereign, 29the King of 30kings and 31Lord of 32lords, 1633who alone possesses immortality and 34dwells in unapproachable light, 35whom 36no one has seen or can see. 37To Him be honor and eternal dominion! Amen.

17Instruct those who are rich in 38this present world 39not to be conceited or to 40set their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but on God, 41who richly supplies us with all things to enjoy. 18Instruct them to do good, to be rich in 42good 43works, 44to be generous and ready to share, 1945storing up for themselves the treasure of a good foundation for the future, so that they may 46take hold of that which is truly life.
