1 Thessalonians 2:3-12
3For our 1exhortation does not come from 2error or 3impurity or 4by way of 5deceit; 46but just as we have been approved by God to be 7entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, 8not intending to please people, but to please God, who 910examines our hearts. 5For we never came 11with flattering speech, as you know, nor with 12a pretext 13for greed--14God is our witness-- 6nor did we 15seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though 16we could have 17asserted our authority as 18apostles of Christ. 7But we 19proved to be 2021gentle 22among you. 23As a nursing mother 24tenderly cares for her own children, 8in the same way we had a fond affection for you and were delighted to 25share with you not only the 26gospel of God, but also our own 27lives, because you had become 28very dear to us.
9For you recall, brothers and sisters, our 29labor and hardship: it was by 30working night and day so as not to be a 31burden to any of you, that we proclaimed to you the 32gospel of God. 10You are witnesses, and so is 33God, of 34how devoutly and rightly and blamelessly we 35behaved toward you 36believers; 11just as you know how we were 37exhorting and encouraging and 38imploring each one of you as 39a father would his own children, 12so that you would 40walk in a manner worthy of the God who 41calls you into His own kingdom and 42glory.
