1 John 3:11-18

11 1For this is the message 2which you have heard from the beginning, 3that we are to love one another; 12not as 4Cain, who was of 5the evil one and murdered his brother. And for what reason did he murder him? Because 6his own deeds were evil, but his brother’s were righteous.

13Do not be surprised, brothers and sisters, if 7the world hates you. 14We know that we have 8passed out of death into life, 9because we love the brothers and sisters. The one who does not love remains in death. 15Everyone who 10hates his brother or sister is a murderer, and you know that 11no murderer has eternal life remaining in him. 16We know love by this, that 12He laid down His life for us; and 13we ought to lay down our lives for the 14brothers and sisters. 17But 15whoever has worldly goods and sees his brother or sister in need, and 16closes his 17heart 18against him, 19how does the love of God remain in him? 18 20Little children, let’s not love with word or with tongue, but in deed and 21truth.
