Joshua 24:1-25

1Then 1JoshuaH3091 gatheredH622 allH3605 the tribesH7626 of IsraelH3478 to ShechemH7927, and calledH7121 for the eldersH2205 of IsraelH3478 and for their headsH7218 and their judgesH8199 and their officersH7860; and they presentedH3320 themselves beforeH6440 GodH430. 2JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to allH3605 the peopleH5971, “ThusH3541 saysH559 the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478, ‘From ancientH5769 timesH5769 your fathersH1 livedH3427 beyondH5676 the 2RiverH5104, namely, 3TerahH8646, the fatherH1 of AbrahamH85 and the fatherH1 of NahorH5152, and they servedH5647 otherH312 godsH430. 3Then 4I tookH3947 your fatherH1 AbrahamH85 from beyondH4480H5676 the 5RiverH5104, and ledH1980 him through allH3605 the landH776 of CanaanH3667, and 6multipliedH7235 his 7descendantsH2233 and gaveH5414 him 8IsaacH3327. 4To IsaacH3327 I gaveH5414 9JacobH3290 and EsauH6215, and 10to EsauH6215 I gaveH5414 MountH2022 SeirH8165 to possessH3423 it; but 11JacobH3290 and his sonsH1121 wentH3381 downH3381 to EgyptH4714. 5Then 12I sentH7971 MosesH4872 and AaronH175, and I plaguedH5062 EgyptH4714 13by whatH834 I didH6213 in its midstH7130; and afterwardH310 I broughtH3318 you out. 6I broughtH3318 your fathersH1 out of EgyptH4714, and 14you cameH935 to the seaH3220; and EgyptH4714 pursuedH7291 your fathersH1 with chariotsH7393 and horsemenH6571 to the 15RedH5488H3220 SeaH3220. 7But when they criedH6817 out to the LordH3068, He putH7760 darknessH3990 betweenH996 you and the EgyptiansH4713, and broughtH935 the seaH3220 upon them and coveredH3680 them; and your own eyesH5869 sawH7200 whatH834 I didH6213 in EgyptH4714. And 16you livedH3427 in the wildernessH4057 for a longH7227 timeH3117. 8Then 17I broughtH935 you into the landH776 of the AmoritesH567 who livedH3427 beyondH5676 the JordanH3383, and they foughtH3898 with you; and I gaveH5414 them into your handH3027, and you tookH3423 possessionH3423 of their landH776 when I destroyedH8045 them beforeH6440 you. 9Then 18BalakH1111 the sonH1121 of ZipporH6834, kingH4428 of MoabH4124, aroseH6965 and foughtH3898 against IsraelH3478, and he sentH7971 and summonedH7121 BalaamH1109 the sonH1121 of BeorH1160 to curseH7043 you. 10But I 19was not willingH14 to listenH8085 to BalaamH1109. So he hadH1288 to blessH1288 you, and I deliveredH5337 you from his handH3027. 1120You crossedH5674 the JordanH3383 and cameH935 to JerichoH3405; and the citizensH1167 of JerichoH3405 foughtH3898 against you, and 21the AmoriteH567 and the PerizziteH6522 and the CanaaniteH3669 and the HittiteH2850 and the GirgashiteH1622, the HiviteH2340 and the JebusiteH2983. Thus 22I gaveH5414 them into your handH3027. 12Then I 23sentH7971 the hornetH6880 beforeH6440 you and it 24droveH1644 out the twoH8147 kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567 from beforeH4480H6440 you, but 25not by your swordH2719 or your bowH7198. 1326I gaveH5414 you a landH776 on whichH834 you had not laboredH3021, and citiesH5892 whichH834 you had not builtH1129, and you have livedH3427 in them; you are eatingH398 of vineyardsH3754 and oliveH2132 grovesH2132 whichH834 you did not plantH5193.’

14“NowH6258, therefore, 2728fearH3372 the LordH3068 and serveH5647 Him in sincerityH8549 and 29truthH571; and putH5493 awayH5493 the godsH430 whichH834 your fathersH1 servedH5647 beyondH5676 the 30RiverH5104 and in EgyptH4714, and serveH5647 the LordH3068. 15IfH518 it is disagreeableH7489 in your sightH5869 to serveH5647 the LordH3068, chooseH977 for yourselves todayH3117 whomH4310 you will serveH5647: whetherH518 the godsH430 whichH834 your fathersH1 servedH5647 whichH834 were beyondH5676 the RiverH5104, or 31the godsH430 of the AmoritesH567 in whoseH834 landH776 you are livingH3427; but as for me and my houseH1004, we will serveH5647 the LordH3068.”

16The peopleH5971 answeredH6030 and saidH559, “FarH2486 be it from us that we should forsakeH5800 the LordH3068 to serveH5647 otherH312 godsH430; 17for the LordH3068 our GodH430 is He who broughtH5927 us and our fathersH1 up out of the landH776 of EgyptH4714, from the houseH1004 of 32bondageH5650, and whoH834 didH6213 theseH428 greatH1419 signsH226 in our sightH5869 and preservedH8104 us through allH3605 the wayH1870 in whichH834 we wentH1980 and among allH3605 the peoplesH5971 through whoseH834 midstH7130 we passedH5674. 18The LordH3068 droveH1644 out from beforeH6440 us allH3605 the peoplesH5971, even the AmoritesH567 who livedH3427 in the landH776. We alsoH1571 will serveH5647 the LordH3068, for He is our GodH430.”

19Then JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, “You will not be ableH3201 to serveH5647 the LordH3068, 33for He is a holyH6918 GodH430. He is 34a jealousH7072 GodH410; 35He will not forgiveH5375 your transgressionH6588 or your sinsH2403. 2036IfH3588 you forsakeH5800 the LordH3068 and serveH5647 foreignH5236 godsH430, then He will turnH7725 and doH7489 you harmH7489 and consumeH3615 you afterH310 He has doneH3190 goodH3190 to you.” 21The peopleH5971 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, “NoH3808, but we will serveH5647 the LordH3068.” 22JoshuaH3091 saidH559 to the peopleH5971, “You are witnessesH5707 against yourselves that 37you have chosenH977 for yourselves the LordH3068, to serveH5647 Him.” And they saidH559, “We are witnessesH5707.” 23“NowH6258 therefore, putH5493 awayH5493 the foreignH5236 godsH430 whichH834 are in your midstH7130, and 38inclineH5186 your heartsH3824 to the LordH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478.” 2439The peopleH5971 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, “We will serveH5647 the LordH3068 our GodH430 and we will 40obeyH8085 His voiceH6963.” 2541So JoshuaH3091 madeH3772 a covenantH1285 with the peopleH5971 that dayH3117, and madeH7760 for them a statuteH2706 and an ordinanceH4941 in ShechemH7927.
