36So the sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Benjaminבִנְיָמִ֖ןvin.ya.MinH1144sawוַיִּרְא֥וּvai.yir.'UH7200that they weredefeatedנִגָּ֑פוּni.Ga.fuH5062.When the menאִֽישׁ־'ish-H376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֤לYis.ra.'ElH3478gaveוַיִּתְּנ֨וּvai.yi.te.NuH5414groundמָקוֹם֙ma.kOmH4725to Benjaminלְבִנְיָמִ֔ןle.vin.ya.MinH1144becauseH3588they reliedבָֽטְחוּ֙va.te.ChuH982on the men in ambushהָ֣אֹרֵ֔בha.'o.RevH693whomאֲשֶׁר'a.SherH834they had setשָׂ֖מוּSa.muH7760againstH413Gibeahהַגִּבְעָֽה׃ha.giv.'AhH1390,

37the men in ambushוְהָאֹרֵ֣בve.ha.'o.RevH693hurriedהֵחִ֔ישׁוּhe.Chi.shuH2363and rushedוַֽיִּפְשְׁט֖וּvai.yif.she.TuH6584againstאֶל־'el-H413Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֑הha.giv.'AhH1390;the men in ambushהָאֹרֵ֔בha.'o.RevH693also deployedוַיִּמְשֹׁךְ֙vai.yim.shoKhH4900and struckוַיַּ֥ךְvai.YakhH5221allכָּל־kol-H3605the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892with the edgeלְפִי־le.fi-H6310of the swordחָֽרֶב׃Cha.revH2719.

38Now the appointedוְהַמּוֹעֵ֗דve.ha.mo.'EdH4150signH4150between the menלְאִ֥ישׁle.'IshH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and the men in ambushהָאֹרֵ֑בha.'o.RevH693wasthat they would make a greatהֶ֕רֶבHe.revH7235cloudמַשְׂאַ֥תmas.'AtH4864of smokeהֶעָשָׁ֖ןhe.'a.ShanH6227riseלְהַעֲלוֹתָ֛םle.ha.'a.lo.TamH5927from the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892.

39Then the menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478turnedוַיַּהֲפֹ֥ךְvai.ya.ha.FokhH2015in the battleבַּמִּלְחָמָ֑הba.mil.cha.MahH4421,and Benjaminוּבִנְיָמִ֡ןu.vin.ya.MinH1144beganהֵחֵל֩he.ChelH2490to strikeלְהַכּ֨וֹתle.ha.KotH5221and killחֲלָלִ֤יםcha.la.LimH5221 H2491about thirtyכִּשְׁלֹשִׁ֣יםkish.lo.ShimH7970menH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478,for they saidאָמְר֔וּ'a.me.RuH559, “Surelyאַךְ֩ נִגּ֨וֹף'aKh ni.GofH389 H5062they aredefeatedנִגָּ֥ףni.GafH5062beforeלְפָנֵ֔ינוּle.fa.Nei.nuH6440us, as in the firstהָרִאשֹׁנָֽה׃ha.ri.sho.NahH7223battleכַּמִּלְחָמָ֖הka.mil.cha.MahH4421.”

40But when the cloudוְהַמַּשְׂאֵ֗תve.ha.mas.'EtH4864beganהֵחֵ֛לָּהhe.Che.lahH2490to riseלַעֲל֥וֹתla.'a.LotH5927from the cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892in a columnעַמּ֣וּד'a.MudH5982of smokeעָשָׁ֑ן'a.ShanH6227,Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144lookedוַיִּ֤פֶןvai.Yi.fenH6437behindאַחֲרָ֔יו'a.cha.RavH310them; and beholdוְהִנֵּ֛הve.hi.NehH2009,the wholeכְלִיל־khe.lil-H3632cityהָעִ֖ירha.'IrH5892was goingעָלָ֥ה'a.LahH5927up in smoketo heavenהַשָּׁמָֽיְמָה׃ha.sha.Ma.ye.mahH8064.

41Then the menוְאִ֤ישׁve.'IshH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478turnedהָפַ֔ךְha.FakhH2015,and the menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִ֑ןbin.ya.MinH1144were terrifiedוַיִּבָּהֵ֖לvai.yi.ba.HelH926;for they sawרָאָ֔הra.'AhH7200thatdisasterH7463wascloseנָגְעָ֥הna.ge.'AhH5060to them.

42Therefore, they turnedוַיִּפְנ֞וּvai.yif.NuH6437their backs beforeלִפְנֵ֨יlif.NeiH6440the menאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478towardאֶל־'el-H413the directionדֶּ֣רֶךְDe.rekhH1870of the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֔רha.mid.BarH4057,but the battleוְהַמִּלְחָמָ֖הve.ha.mil.cha.MahH4421overtookהִדְבִּיקָ֑תְהוּhid.bi.Ka.te.huH1692them whileH834those whoH834came out of the citiesמֵהֶ֣עָרִ֔יםme.He.'a.RimH5892destroyedמַשְׁחִיתִ֥יםmash.chi.TimH7843them in the midstבְּתוֹכֽוֹ׃be.to.KhoH8432of them.

43They surroundedכִּתְּר֤וּki.te.RuH3803Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144,pursuedהִרְדִיפֻ֔הוּhir.di.Fu.huH7291them without restמְנוּחָ֖הme.nu.ChahH4496andtrodהִדְרִיכֻ֑הוּhid.ri.Khu.huH1869them downH1869oppositeנֹ֥כַחNo.khachH5227Gibeahהַגִּבְעָ֖הha.giv.'AhH1390towardH4480theeastמִמִּזְרַח־ שָֽׁמֶשׁ׃mi.miz.rach- Sha.meshH4217 H8121.

44Thus 18,000שְׁמֹנָֽה־ עָשָׂ֥ר אֶ֖לֶףshe.mo.nah- 'a.Sar 'E.lefH8083 H6240 H505menאִ֑ישׁ'IshH376of Benjaminמִבִּנְיָמִ֔ןmi.bin.ya.MinH1144fellוַֽיִּפְּלוּ֙vai.yi.pe.LuH5307;allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵ֖לֶּה'E.lehH428were valiantחָֽיִל׃Cha.yilH2428warriorsH376.

45The rest turnedוַיִּפְנ֞וּvai.yif.NuH6437and fledוַיָּנֻ֤סוּvai.ya.Nu.suH5127toward the wildernessהַמִּדְבָּ֙רָה֙ha.mid.Ba.rahH4057to the rockסֶ֣לַעSe.la'H5553ofRimmonהָֽרִמּ֔וֹןha.ri.MonH7417, but theycaughtוַיְעֹֽלְלֻ֙הוּ֙vay.'o.le.Lu.huH59535,000חֲמֵ֥שֶׁת אֲלָפִ֖יםcha.Me.shet 'a.la.FimH2568 H505of them on the highwaysבַּֽמְסִלּ֔וֹתbam.si.LotH4546and overtookוַיַּדְבִּ֤יקוּvai.yad.Bi.kuH1692themat Gidomגִּדְעֹ֔םgid.'OmH1440andkilledוַיַּכּ֥וּvai.ya.KuH52212,000אַלְפַּ֥יִם'al.Pa.yimH505of them.

46So allכָל־khol-H3605of Benjaminמִבִּנְיָמִ֗ןmi.bin.ya.MinH1144who fellהַנֹּ֨פְלִ֜יםha.No.fe.LimH5307that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117were 25,000עֶשְׂרִים֩ וַחֲמִשָּׁ֨ה אֶ֥לֶף'es.Rim va.cha.mi.Shah 'E.lefH2568 H6242 H505menאִ֛ישׁ'ishH376who drawשֹׁ֥לֵֽףSho.lefH8025the swordחֶ֖רֶבChe.revH2719;allכָּל־kol-H3605theseאֵ֖לֶּה'E.lehH428were valiantחָֽיִל׃Cha.yilH2428warriorsH376.
