1But afterH4480a whileמִיָּמִ֜יםmi.ya.MimH3117,in the timeבִּימֵ֣יbi.MeiH3117of wheatחִטִּ֗יםchi.TimH2406harvestקְצִיר־ke.tzir-H7105,Samsonשִׁמְשׁ֤וֹןshim.ShonH8123visitedוַיִּפְקֹ֨דvai.yif.KodH6485his wifeאִשְׁתּוֹ֙'ish.ToH802with a youngבִּגְדִ֣יbig.DiH1423goatעִזִּ֔ים'i.ZimH5795,and saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I will goאָבֹ֥אָה'a.Vo.'ahH935in to my wifeאִשְׁתִּ֖י'ish.TiH802in herroomהֶחָ֑דְרָהhe.Cha.de.rahH2315.”But her fatherאָבִ֖יהָ'a.Vi.haH1did not letנְתָנ֥וֹne.ta.NoH5414him enterלָבֽוֹא׃la.Vo'H935.
2Her fatherאָבִ֗יהָ'a.Vi.haH1saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I reallyאָמֹ֤ר'a.MorH559thoughtאָמַ֙רְתִּי֙'a.Mar.tiH559that you hatedשָׂנֹ֣אsa.No'H8130her intenselyשְׂנֵאתָ֔הּse.ne.TahH8130; so Igaveוָאֶתְּנֶ֖נָּהva.'et.te.Ne.nahH5414her to your companionלְמֵרֵעֶ֑ךָle.me.re.'E.khaH4828.Is not her youngerהַקְּטַנָּה֙ha.ke.ta.NahH6996sisterאֲחֹתָ֤הּ'a.cho.TahH269moreמִמֶּ֔נָּהmi.Me.nahH4480H2896beautifulH2896thanH4480she? Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994let her be yoursinsteadתַּחְתֶּֽיהָ׃tach.Tei.haH8478.”
4Samsonשִׁמְשׁ֔וֹןshim.ShonH8123wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and caughtוַיִּלְכֹּ֖דvai.yil.KodH3920threeשְׁלֹשׁ־she.losh-H7969hundredמֵא֣וֹתme.'otH3967foxesשׁוּעָלִ֑יםshu.'a.LimH7776,and tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947torchesלַפִּדִ֗יםla.pi.DimH3940,and turnedוַיֶּ֤פֶןvai.Ye.fenH6437the foxestailזָנָב֙za.NavH2180to tailזָנָ֔בza.NavH2180and putוַיָּ֨שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760oneאֶחָ֛ד'e.ChadH259torchלַפִּ֥ידla.PidH3940in the middleבַּתָּֽוֶךְ׃ba.Ta.vekhH8432betweenבֵּין־bein-H996twoשְׁנֵ֥יshe.NeiH8147tailsהַזְּנָב֖וֹתha.ze.na.VotH2180.
5When he had setוַיַּבְעֶר־vai.yav.'er-H1197fireאֵשׁ֙'eshH784to the torchesבַּלַּפִּידִ֔יםba.la.pi.DimH3940,he releasedוַיְשַׁלַּ֖חvay.sha.LachH7971the foxes into the standingבְּקָמ֣וֹתbe.ka.MotH7054grainקָמָ֖הka.MahH7054of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430,thus burningוַיַּבְעֵ֛רvai.yav.'ErH1197up bothH4480the shocksמִגָּדִ֥ישׁmi.ga.DishH1430and the standingH7054grainH7054,alongH5704with the vineyardsכֶּ֥רֶםKe.remH3754andgrovesזָֽיִת׃Za.yitH2132.
6Then the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּים֮fe.lish.TimH6430saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “Whoמִ֣יmiH4310didעָ֣שָׂה'A.sahH6213thisH2088?”And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “Samsonשִׁמְשׁוֹן֙shim.shOnH8123,the son-in-lawחֲתַ֣ןcha.TanH2860of the Timniteהַתִּמְנִ֔יha.tim.NiH8554,becauseכִּ֚יkiH3588he tookלָקַ֣חla.KachH3947his wifeאִשְׁתּ֔וֹ'ish.ToH802and gaveוַֽיִּתְּנָ֖הּvai.yi.te.NahH5414her to his companionלְמֵרֵעֵ֑הוּle.me.re.'E.huH4828.”So the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430cameוַיַּעֲל֣וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927up andburnedוַיִּשְׂרְפ֥וּvai.yis.re.FuH8313her and her fatherאָבִ֖יהָ'a.Vi.haH1with fireבָּאֵֽשׁ׃ba.'EshH784.
8He struckוַיַּ֨ךְvai.YakhH5221themruthlesslyשׁ֛וֹק עַל־ יָרֵ֖ךְShok 'al- ya.RekhH7785H5921H3409with a greatגְדוֹלָ֑הge.do.LahH1419slaughterמַכָּ֣הma.KahH4347;and he wentH3381downוַיֵּ֣רֶדvai.Ye.redH3381and livedוַיֵּ֔שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in the cleftבִּסְעִ֖יףbis.'IfH5585of the rockסֶ֥לַעSe.la'H5553of Etamעֵיטָֽם׃ ס'ei.TamH5862.
10The menאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Judahיְהוּדָ֔הye.hu.DahH3063saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559, “Whyלָמָ֖הla.MahH4100have you comeעֲלִיתֶ֣ם'a.li.TemH5927up againstעָלֵ֑ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921us?” And they saidוַיֹּאמְר֗וּvai.yo.me.RuH559, “We have comeעָלִ֔ינוּ'a.Li.nuH5927up to bindלֶאֱס֤וֹרle.'e.SorH631Samsonשִׁמְשׁוֹן֙shim.shOnH8123in order to doלַעֲשׂ֣וֹתla.'a.SotH6213to him as he didעָ֥שָׂה'A.sahH6213to us.”
11Then 3,000שְׁלֹשֶׁת֩ אֲלָפִ֨יםshe.lo.Shet 'a.la.FimH7969H505menאִ֜ישׁ'ishH376of Judahמִֽיהוּדָ֗הmi.hu.DahH3063wentH3381downוַיֵּרְד֡וּvai.ye.re.DuH3381to the cleftסְעִיף֮se.'IfH5585of the rockסֶ֣לַעSe.la'H5553of Etamעֵיטָם֒'ei.TamH5862and saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Samsonלְשִׁמְשׁ֗וֹןle.shim.ShonH8123, “Do you not knowיָדַ֙עְתָּ֙ya.Da'.taH3045that the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430are rulersמֹשְׁלִ֥יםmo.she.LimH4910over us? Whatוּמַה־u.mah-H4100then is thisH2088that you have doneעָשִׂ֣יתָ'a.Si.taH6213to us?” And he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “As they didעָ֣שׂוּ'A.suH6213to me, soכֵּ֖ןkenH3651I have doneעָשִׂ֥יתִי'a.Si.tiH6213to them.”
12They saidוַיֹּ֤אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559to him, “We have comeיָרַ֔דְנוּya.Rad.nuH3381downH3381to bindלֶאֱסָרְךָ֣le.'e.sa.re.KhaH631you so that we may giveלְתִתְּךָ֖le.ti.te.KhaH5414you into the handsבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430.”And Samsonשִׁמְשׁ֔וֹןshim.ShonH8123saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Swearהִשָּׁבְע֣וּhi.sha.ve.'UH7650to me that you will notkillתִּפְגְּע֥וּןtif.ge.'UnH6293me.”
13So they saidH559tohim, “NoH3808,but we will bindאָסֹ֤ר'a.SorH631you fastנֶֽאֱסָרְךָ֙ne.'e.sa.re.KhaH631and giveוּנְתַנּ֣וּךָu.ne.ta.Nu.khaH5414you into their handsבְיָדָ֔םve.ya.DamH3027;yet surelyוְהָמֵ֖תve.ha.MetH4191we will not killנְמִיתֶ֑ךָne.mi.Te.khaH4191you.” Then they boundוַיַּאַסְרֻ֗הוּvai.ya.'as.Ru.huH631him with twoבִּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙bish.Na.yimH8147newחֲדָשִׁ֔יםcha.da.ShimH2319ropesעֲבֹתִ֣ים'a.vo.TimH5688and broughtוַֽיַּעֲל֖וּהוּvai.ya.'a.Lu.huH5927him up from the rockהַסָּֽלַע׃ha.Sa.la'H5553.
14When he cameבָ֣אva'H935to Lehiלֶ֔חִיLe.chiH3896,the Philistinesוּפִלְשִׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430shoutedהֵרִ֣יעוּhe.Ri.'uH7321as they metלִקְרָאת֑וֹlik.ra.ToH7122him. Andthe Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068cameH6743upon him mightilyH6743so that the ropesהָעֲבֹתִ֜יםha.'a.vo.TimH5688that were on his armsזְרוֹעוֹתָ֗יוze.ro.'o.TavH2220were as flaxכַּפִּשְׁתִּים֙ka.pish.TimH6593that is burnedבָּעֲר֣וּba.'a.RuH1197with fireבָאֵ֔שׁva.'EshH784,and his bondsאֱסוּרָ֖יו'e.su.RavH612droppedוַיִּמַּ֥סּוּvai.yim.Ma.suH4549from his handsיָדָֽיו׃ya.DavH3027.
15He foundוַיִּמְצָ֥אvai.yim.Tza'H4672a freshטְרִיָּ֑הte.ri.YahH2961jawboneלְחִֽי־le.chi-H3895of a donkeyחֲמ֖וֹרcha.MorH2543, so hereachedוַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יָדוֹ֙vai.yish.Lach ya.DoH7971H3027out and tookוַיִּקָּחֶ֔הָvai.yi.ka.Che.haH3947it andkilledוַיַּךְ־vai.yakh-H5221a thousandאֶ֥לֶף'E.lefH505menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376with it.
16Then Samsonשִׁמְשׁ֔וֹןshim.ShonH8123saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “With the jawboneבִּלְחִ֣יbil.ChiH3895of a donkeyהַחֲמ֔וֹרha.cha.MorH2543,Heapsחֲמ֖וֹרcha.MorH2565upon heapsחֲמֹרָתָ֑יִםcha.mo.ra.Ta.yimH2565,With the jawboneבִּלְחִ֣יbil.ChiH3895of a donkeyהַחֲמ֔וֹרha.cha.MorH2543I havekilledהִכֵּ֖יתִיhi.Kei.tiH5221a thousandאֶ֥לֶף'E.lefH505menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376.”
18Then he becameH6770veryמְאֹד֒me.'OdH3966thirstyוַיִּצְמָא֮vai.yitz.Ma'H6770, and hecalledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמַ֔רvai.yo.MarH559, “You have givenנָתַ֣תָּna.Ta.taH5414thisH2088greatהַגְּדֹלָ֖הha.ge.do.LahH1419deliveranceהַתְּשׁוּעָ֥הha.te.shu.'AhH8668by the handבְיַֽד־ve.yad-H3027of Your servantעַבְדְּךָ֔'av.de.KhaH5650,and nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258shall I dieאָמ֣וּת'a.MutH4191of thirstבַּצָּמָ֔אba.tza.Ma'H6772and fallוְנָפַלְתִּ֖יve.na.fal.TiH5307into the handsבְּיַ֥דbe.YadH3027of the uncircumcisedהָעֲרֵלִֽים׃ha.'a.re.LimH6189?”
19But Godאֱלֹהִ֜ים'E.lo.HimH430splitוַיִּבְקַ֨עvai.yiv.Ka'H1234the hollowהַמַּכְתֵּ֣שׁha.makh.TeshH4388place that is in LehiH3896so that waterמַ֙יִם֙ma.yimH4325cameוַיֵּצְא֨וּvai.ye.tze.'UH3318out of it. When he drankוַיֵּ֔שְׁתְּvai.Ye.shetH8354, hisstrengthרוּח֖וֹru.ChoH7307returnedוַתָּ֥שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725and he revivedוַיֶּ֑חִיvai.Ye.chiH2421.Thereforeעַל־ כֵּ֣ן׀'al- kenH5921H3651he namedקָרָ֣א שְׁמָ֗הּka.Ra' she.MahH7121H8034itEn-hakkoreH5875,whichH834is in Lehiבַּלֶּ֔חִיba.Le.chiH3896to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.
