Philistines Oppress Again

1Now the sonsבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478againוַיֹּסִ֙פוּ֙vai.yo.Si.fuH3254didלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213evilהָרַ֖עha.Ra'H7451in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֣יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,so that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068gaveוַיִּתְּנֵ֧םvai.yi.te.NemH5414them into the handsבְּיַד־be.yad-H3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖יםpe.lish.TimH6430fortyאַרְבָּעִ֥ים'ar.ba.'ImH705yearsשָׁנָֽה׃ פsha.NahH8141.

2There was a certainאֶחָ֧ד'e.ChadH259manאִ֨ישׁ'ishH376ofZorahמִצָּרְעָ֛הmi.tza.re.'AhH6881,of the familyמִמִּשְׁפַּ֥חַתmi.mish.Pa.chatH4940of the Danitesהַדָּנִ֖יha.da.NiH1839,whose nameוּשְׁמ֣וֹu.she.MoH8034was Manoahמָנ֑וֹחַma.No.achH4495;and his wifeוְאִשְׁתּ֥וֹve.'ish.ToH802was barrenעֲקָרָ֖ה'a.ka.RahH6135and had borneיָלָֽדָה׃ya.La.dahH3205noוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808children.

3Then the angelמַלְאַךְ־mal.'akh-H4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068appearedוַיֵּרָ֥אvai.ye.Ra'H7200to the womanהָאִשָּׁ֑הha.'i.ShahH802and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to her, “Beholdהִנֵּה־hi.neh-H2009nowנָ֤אna'H4994,you are barrenעֲקָרָה֙'a.ka.RahH6135and have borneH3205noוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808children,but you shall conceiveוְהָרִ֖יתve.ha.RitH2029and giveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּֽן׃BenH1121.

4Nowוְעַתָּה֙ve.'a.TahH6258therefore, be carefulהִשָּׁ֣מְרִיhi.Sha.me.riH8104not to drinkתִּשְׁתִּ֖יtish.TiH8354wineיַ֣יִןYa.yinH3196or strongוְשֵׁכָ֑רve.she.KharH7941drinkH7941,norH408eatתֹּאכְלִ֖יtokh.LiH398anyכָּל־kol-H3605uncleanטָמֵֽא׃ta.Me'H2931thingH2931.

5For beholdהִנָּ֨ךְhi.NakhH2009,you shall conceiveהָרָ֜הha.RahH2030and giveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּ֗ןBenH1121,and noלֹא־lo'-H3808razorוּמוֹרָה֙u.mo.RahH4177shall comeיַעֲלֶ֣הya.'a.LehH5927upon his headרֹאשׁ֔וֹro.ShoH7218,for the boyהַנַּ֖עַרha.Na.'arH5288shall be aNaziriteנְזִ֧ירne.ZirH5139to Godאֱלֹהִ֛ים'E.lo.HimH430from the wombהַבָּ֑טֶןha.Ba.tenH990;and he shall beginיָחֵ֛לya.ChelH2490to deliverלְהוֹשִׁ֥יעַle.ho.Shi.a'H3467Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478from the handsמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃pe.lish.TimH6430.”

6Then the womanהָאִשָּׁ֗הha.'i.ShahH802cameוַתָּבֹ֣אva.ta.Vo'H935and toldוַתֹּ֣אמֶרva.To.merH559her husbandלְאִישָׁהּ֮le.'i.ShahH376,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “A manאִ֤ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430cameבָּ֣אba'H935to me and his appearanceוּמַרְאֵ֕הוּu.mar.'E.huH4758was like the appearanceכְּמַרְאֵ֛הke.mar.'EhH4758of the angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966awesomeנוֹרָ֣אno.Ra'H3372.And I did not askשְׁאִלְתִּ֙יהוּ֙she.'il.Ti.huH7592him whereאֵֽי־'ei-H335he camefrom, norH3808did he tellהִגִּ֥ידhi.GidH5046me his nameשְׁמ֖וֹshe.MoH8034.

7But he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to me, ‘Beholdהִנָּ֥ךְhi.NakhH2009,you shall conceiveהָרָ֖הha.RahH2030and giveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּ֑ןBenH1121,and nowוְעַתָּ֞הve.'a.TahH6258you shall not drinkתִּשְׁתִּ֣י׀tish.TiH8354wineיַ֣יִןYa.yinH3196or strongוְשֵׁכָ֗רve.she.KharH7941drinkH7941norH408eatתֹּֽאכְלִי֙to.khe.LiH398anyכָּל־kol-H3605uncleanH2932thingH2932,for the boyהַנַּ֔עַרha.Na.'arH5288shall be a Naziriteנְזִ֤ירne.ZirH5139to Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430from the wombהַבֶּ֖טֶןha.Be.tenH990to the dayי֥וֹםYomH3117of his deathמוֹתֽוֹ׃ פmo.ToH4194.’”

8Then Manoahמָנ֛וֹחַma.No.achH4495entreatedוַיֶּעְתַּ֥רvai.ye'.TarH6279the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמַ֑רvai.yo.MarH559, “OH994Lordאֲדוֹנָ֔י'a.do.NaiH136,pleaseנָ֥אna'H994 H4994letthe manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֞יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whomאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834You have sentשָׁלַ֗חְתָּsha.Lach.taH7971comeיָבוֹא־ya.Vo'-H935to us againעוֹד֙'OdH5750that he may teachוְיוֹרֵ֕נוּve.yo.Re.nuH3384us whatמַֽה־mah-H4100to doנַּעֲשֶׂ֖הna.'a.SehH6213for the boyלַנַּ֥עַרla.Na.'arH5288who is to be bornהַיּוּלָּֽד׃hai.yu.LadH3205.”

9Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430listenedוַיִּשְׁמַ֥עvai.yish.Ma'H8085to the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of Manoahמָנ֑וֹחַma.No.achH4495; andthe angelמַלְאַךְ֩mal.'aKhH4397of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֨יםha.'E.lo.HimH430cameוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935againע֜וֹדodH5750to the womanהָאִשָּׁ֗הha.'i.ShahH802as she was sittingיוֹשֶׁ֣בֶתyo.She.vetH3427in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֔הba.sa.DehH7704,but Manoahוּמָנ֥וֹחַu.ma.No.achH4495her husbandאִישָׁ֖הּ'i.ShahH376was not with her.

10So the womanהָֽאִשָּׁ֔הha.'i.ShahH802ranוַתָּ֖רָץva.Ta.rotzH7323quicklyוַתְּמַהֵר֙va.te.ma.HerH4116and toldוַתַּגֵּ֣דva.ta.GedH5046herhusbandלְאִישָׁ֑הּle.'i.ShahH376, “Beholdהִנֵּ֨הhi.NehH2009,the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֥אba'H935the otherdayבַיּ֖וֹםvai.YomH3117has appearedנִרְאָ֤הnir.'AhH7200to me.”

11Then Manoahמָנ֖וֹחַma.No.achH4495aroseוַיָּ֛קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and followedוַיֵּ֥לֶךְ אַחֲרֵ֣יvai.Ye.lekh 'a.cha.ReiH1980 H310his wifeאִשְׁתּ֑וֹ'ish.ToH802,and when he cameוַיָּבֹא֙vai.ya.Vo'H935to the manהָאִ֔ישׁha.'IshH376he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Are youthe manהָאִ֛ישׁha.'IshH376whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834spokeדִּבַּ֥רְתָּdi.Bar.taH1696to the womanהָאִשָּׁ֖הha.'i.ShahH802?”And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I am.”

12Manoahמָנ֔וֹחַma.No.achH4495saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Nowעַתָּ֖ה'a.TahH6258when your wordsדְבָרֶ֑יךָde.va.Rei.khaH1697comeיָבֹ֣אya.Vo'H935to pass,whatמַה־mah-H4100shall be the boy’sהַנַּ֖עַרha.Na.'arH5288modeH4941of lifeH4941and his vocationוּמַעֲשֵֽׂהוּ׃u.ma.'a.Se.huH4639?”

13Sothe angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Manoahמָנ֑וֹחַma.No.achH4495, “Let the womanהָאִשָּׁ֖הha.'i.ShahH802payH8104attentionH8104to allמִכֹּ֛לmi.KolH3605that I saidאָמַ֥רְתִּי'a.Mar.tiH559.

14She should not eatתֹאכַ֗לto.KhalH398anythingמִכֹּ֣לmi.KolH3605that comesיֵצֵא֩ye.Tze'H3318from thevineמִגֶּ֨פֶןmi.Ge.fenH1612norאַל־'al-H408drinkתֵּ֔שְׁתְּTe.shetH8354wineH3196or strongוְשֵׁכָר֙ve.she.KharH7941drinkH7941,norאַל־'al-H408eatתֹּאכַ֑לto.KhalH398anyוְכָל־ve.kholH3605uncleanH2932thingH2932;let her observeתִּשְׁמֹֽר׃tish.MorH8104allכֹּ֥לkolH3605that I commandedצִוִּיתִ֖יהָtzi.vi.Ti.haH6680.”

15Then Manoahמָנ֖וֹחַma.No.achH4495saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559tothe angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, “Pleaseנָּ֣אna'H4994let us detainנַעְצְרָה־na'.tze.rah-H6113you so that we may prepareוְנַעֲשֶׂ֥הve.na.'a.SehH6213a youngH1423 H5795goatעִזִּֽים׃'i.ZimH1423 H5795for you.”

16The angelמַלְאַ֨ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּאמֶר֩vai.yo.MerH559to Manoahמָנ֗וֹחַma.No.achH4495, “Thoughאִם־'im-H518you detainתַּעְצְרֵ֙נִי֙ta'.tze.Re.niH6113me,I will not eatאֹכַ֣ל'o.KhalH398yourfoodבְּלַחְמֶ֔ךָbe.lach.Me.khaH3899,but ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you prepareתַּעֲשֶׂ֣הta.'a.SehH6213a burntעֹלָ֔ה'o.LahH5930offeringH5930, thenofferתַּעֲלֶ֑נָּהta.'a.Le.nahH5927it to the Lordלַיהוָ֖הla.Yah.wehH3068.”For Manoahמָנ֔וֹחַma.No.achH4495did not knowיָדַ֣עya.Da'H3045that he was the angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068.

17Manoahמָנ֛וֹחַma.No.achH4495saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068, “Whatמִ֣יmiH4310is your nameשְׁמֶ֑ךָshe.Me.khaH8034,so that when your wordsדְבָרְךָ֖div.rei.khaH1697comeיָבֹ֥אya.Vo'H935to pass,we may honorוְכִבַּדְנֽוּךָ׃ve.khi.bad.Nu.khaH3513you?”

18But the angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Whyלָ֥מָּהLa.mahH4100do you askתִּשְׁאַ֣לtish.'AlH7592my nameלִשְׁמִ֑יlish.MiH8034, seeing it iswonderfulפֶ֛לִאי׃ סFe.liH6383?”

19SoManoahמָנ֜וֹחַma.No.achH4495tookוַיִּקַּ֨חvai.yi.KachH3947the youngH1423 H5795goatהָעִזִּים֙ha.'i.ZimH1423 H5795with the grain offeringהַמִּנְחָ֔הha.min.ChahH4503and offeredוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927it on the rockהַצּ֖וּרha.TzurH6697to the Lordלַֽיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068,and He performedלַעֲשׂ֔וֹתla.'a.SotH6213wondersוּמַפְלִ֣אu.maf.Li'H6381while Manoahוּמָנ֥וֹחַu.ma.No.achH4495and his wifeוְאִשְׁתּ֖וֹve.'ish.ToH802lookedרֹאִֽים׃ro.'ImH7200on.

20For it cameוַיְהִי֩vay.HiH1961about when the flameהַלַּ֜הַבha.La.havH3851wentבַעֲל֨וֹתva.'a.LotH5927up from the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ha.miz.Be.achH4196toward heavenהַשָּׁמַ֔יְמָהha.sha.May.mahH8064,that the angelמַלְאַךְ־mal.'akh-H4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068ascendedוַיַּ֥עַלvai.Ya.'alH5927in the flameבְּלַ֣הַבbe.La.havH3851of the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַha.miz.Be.achH4196.When Manoahוּמָנ֤וֹחַu.ma.No.achH4495and his wifeוְאִשְׁתּוֹ֙ve.'ish.ToH802sawרֹאִ֔יםro.'ImH7200this, theyfellוַיִּפְּל֥וּvai.yi.pe.LuH5307on their facesפְּנֵיהֶ֖םpe.nei.HemH6440to the groundאָֽרְצָה׃'A.re.tzahH776.

21Now the angelמַלְאַ֣ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068did not appearלְהֵרָאֹ֖הle.he.ra.'OhH7200to Manoahמָנ֣וֹחַma.No.achH4495or his wifeאִשְׁתּ֑וֹ'ish.ToH802againיָ֤סַף עוֹד֙Ya.saf 'OdH3254 H5750.Thenאָ֚ז'azH227Manoahמָנ֔וֹחַma.No.achH4495knewיָדַ֣עya.Da'H3045that he was the angelמַלְאַ֥ךְmal.'AkhH4397of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068.

22So Manoahמָנ֛וֹחַma.No.achH4495saidוַיֹּ֧אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his wifeאִשְׁתּ֖וֹ'ish.ToH802, “We will surelyמ֣וֹתMotH4191dieנָמ֑וּתna.MutH4191,for we have seenרָאִֽינוּ׃ra.'I.nuH7200Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430.”

23But his wifeאִשְׁתּ֗וֹ'ish.ToH802saidוַתֹּ֧אמֶרva.To.merH559to him, “Ifלוּ֩luH3863the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068had desiredחָפֵ֨ץcha.FetzH2654to killלַהֲמִיתֵ֙נוּ֙la.ha.mi.Te.nuH4191us, He would not have acceptedלָקַ֤חla.KachH3947a burntעֹלָ֣ה'o.LahH5930offeringH5930and a grain offeringוּמִנְחָ֔הu.min.ChahH4503from our handsמִיָּדֵ֙נוּ֙mi.ya.De.nuH3027,norH3808would He haveshownהֶרְאָ֖נוּher.'A.nuH7200us allכָּל־kol-H3605theseH428thingsאֵ֑לֶּה'E.lehH428,norH3808would He have let us hearהִשְׁמִיעָ֖נוּhish.mi.'A.nuH8085thingslike thisH2088at this timeוְכָעֵ֕תve.kha.'EtH6256.”

24Then the womanהָֽאִשָּׁה֙ha.'i.ShahH802gaveH3205birthH3205to a sonבֵּ֔ןBenH1121and namedוַתִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹva.tik.Ra' she.MoH7121 H8034him Samsonשִׁמְשׁ֑וֹןshim.ShonH8123; and thechildהַנַּ֔עַרha.Na.'arH5288grewוַיִּגְדַּ֣לvai.yig.DalH1431up and the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068blessedוַֽיְבָרְכֵ֖הוּvay.va.re.Khe.huH1288him.

25Andthe Spiritר֣וּחַRu.achH7307of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068beganוַתָּ֙חֶל֙va.Ta.chelH2490to stirלְפַעֲמ֖וֹle.fa.'a.MoH6470him inMahaneh-danH4265,betweenH996Zorahצָרְעָ֖הtza.re.'AhH6881and Eshtaolאֶשְׁתָּאֹֽל׃ פ'esh.ta.'OlH847.
