Context of Jeremiah 30:9
7Alas! for that day is great, There is none like it; And it is the time of Jacob’s distress, But he will be saved from it. 8‘It shall come about on that day,’ declares the Lord of hosts, ‘that I will break his yoke from off their neck and will tear off their bonds; and strangers will no longer make them their slaves. But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up for them. 10Fear not, O Jacob My servant,’ declares the Lord, ‘And do not be dismayed, O Israel; For behold, I will save you from afar And your offspring from the land of their captivity. And Jacob will return and will be quiet and at ease, And no one will make him afraid. 11For I am with you,’ declares the Lord, ‘to save you; For I will destroy completely all the nations where I have scattered you, Only I will not destroy you completely. But I will chasten you justly And will by no means leave you unpunished.’

Commentaries on Jeremiah 30:9
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 9But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their King - This must refer to the times of the Messiah and hence the Chaldee has, "They shall obey the Lord their God, דוד בר למשיחה מאון וישת veyishta meun limschicha bar David, and they shall obey the Messiah, the Son of David." This is a very remarkable version; and shows that it was a version, not according to the letter, but according to their doctrine and their expectation. David was long since…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9After the Exile, the Israelites stopped worshiping idols and truly served the Lord their God. The Lord would provide a king, a descendant of David, who would be called the Messiah (Isaiah 55:3–4; Ezekiel 34:23; 37:24; Hosea 3:5; Luke 1:69; Acts 2:30; 13:22–23).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 99. Instead of serving strangers (Jr 30:8), they shall serve the Lord, their rightful King in the theocracy (Eze 21:27). David, their king--No king of David's seed has held the scepter since the captivity; for Zerubbabel, though of David's line, never claimed the title of "king." The Son of David, Messiah, must therefore be meant; so the Targum (compare Is 55:3, 4; Eze 34:23, 24; 37:24; Ho 3:5; Ro 11:25-32). He was appointed to the throne of David (Is 9:7…Read the comment
