Context of Jeremiah 30:9
7How terrible that day will be! There will be no other day like it. It will be a time of calamity for the descendants of Jacob, but they will be rescued from it. 8“On that day,” declares the Lord of Armies, “I will break the yokes off your necks and tear off your ropes. Foreigners will no longer make you serve them. You will serve the Lord your God and David your king. I will establish him for you. 10“Don’t be afraid, my servant Jacob,” declares the Lord. “Don’t be terrified, Israel. I’m going to rescue you from a faraway place. I’m going to rescue your descendants from where they are captives. The descendants of Jacob will again have peace and security, and no one will frighten them. 11I am with you, and I will rescue you,” declares the Lord. “I will completely destroy all the nations where I scattered you, but I will not completely destroy you. I will correct you with justice. I won’t let you go entirely unpunished.

Commentaries on Jeremiah 30:9
- Adam Clarke Bible Commentary · v. 9But they shall serve the Lord their God, and David their King - This must refer to the times of the Messiah and hence the Chaldee has, "They shall obey the Lord their God, דוד בר למשיחה מאון וישת veyishta meun limschicha bar David, and they shall obey the Messiah, the Son of David." This is a very remarkable version; and shows that it was a version, not according to the letter, but according to their doctrine and their expectation. David was long since…Read the comment

- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 9After the Exile, the Israelites stopped worshiping idols and truly served the Lord their God. The Lord would provide a king, a descendant of David, who would be called the Messiah (Isaiah 55:3–4; Ezekiel 34:23; 37:24; Hosea 3:5; Luke 1:69; Acts 2:30; 13:22–23).Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 99. Instead of serving strangers (Jr 30:8), they shall serve the Lord, their rightful King in the theocracy (Eze 21:27). David, their king--No king of David's seed has held the scepter since the captivity; for Zerubbabel, though of David's line, never claimed the title of "king." The Son of David, Messiah, must therefore be meant; so the Targum (compare Is 55:3, 4; Eze 34:23, 24; 37:24; Ho 3:5; Ro 11:25-32). He was appointed to the throne of David (Is 9:7…Read the comment
