Judges 12:4-6
4Jephthah thenH3316 gatheredH6908 allH3605 the menH582 of GileadH1568 and foughtH3898 againstH854 EphraimH669. And the menH582 of GileadH1568 struck them downH5221 becauseH3588 the EphraimitesH669 had saidH559, “YouH859 GileaditesH1568 are fugitivesH6412 in EphraimH669, living in the territoriesH8432 of EphraimH669H8432 and ManassehH4519.”
5The GileaditesH1568 capturedH3920 the fordsH4569 of the JordanH3383 leading to EphraimH669, andH1961 wheneverH3588 a fugitiveH6412 from EphraimH669 would sayH559, “Let me cross overH5674,” the GileaditesH1568 would askH559 himH582, “Are youH859 an EphraimiteH673?”
If he answeredH559, “NoH3808,” 6they toldH559 him, “PleaseH4994 sayH559 ShibbolethH7641.”
If he saidH559, “SibbolethH5451,” because he couldH3559 notH3808 pronounceH1696 it correctlyH3651, they seizedH270 himH853 and killed himH7819 atH413 the fordsH4569 of the JordanH3383. So at thatH1931 timeH6256 42,000H705H8147H505 EphraimitesH669 were killedH5307.
