David’s Triumphs
(2 Samuel 8:1–14; Psalm 60:1–12)
1Some time laterH1961H310H3651, DavidH1732 defeatedH5221 the PhilistinesH6430, subdued themH3665, and tookH3947 GathH1661 and its villagesH1323 from the handH3027 of the PhilistinesH6430.
2David also defeatedH5221 the MoabitesH4124, and theyH4124 becameH1961 subjectH5650 to DavidH1732 and brought himH5375 tributeH4503.
3As far as HamathH2574, DavidH1732 also defeatedH5221 KingH4428 HadadezerH1909 of ZobahH6678, who had marched outH1980 to establishH5324 his dominionH30271 along the EuphratesH6578 RiverH5104. 4DavidH1732 capturedH3920 from himH4480 a thousandH505 chariotsH7393, sevenH7651 thousandH505 charioteersH6571, and twentyH6242 thousandH505 foot soldiersH376H7273, and he hamstrungH6131H1732 allH3605 the horsesH7393 except a hundredH3967 he keptH3498 for the chariotsH7393.
5When the ArameansH758 of DamascusH1834 cameH935 to helpH5826 KingH4428 HadadezerH1909 of ZobahH6678, DavidH1732H758 struck downH5221 twenty-twoH6242H8147 thousandH505 of their menH376. 6Then heH1732 placedH7760 garrisons2 in AramH758 of DamascusH1834, and the ArameansH758 becameH1961 subjectH5650 to DavidH1732 and brought himH5375 tributeH4503. So the LORDH3068 made DavidH1732 victoriousH34673 whereverH3605 he wentH1980.
7And DavidH1732 tookH3947 the goldH2091 shieldsH7982 thatH834 belongedH1961 toH5921 the officersH5650 of HadadezerH1909 and brought themH935 to JerusalemH3389. 8And from TibhathH28804 and CunH3560, citiesH5892 of HadadezerH1909, DavidH1732 tookH3947 a largeH3966 amountH7227 of bronzeH5178, with which SolomonH8010 madeH6213 the bronzeH5178 SeaH3220, the pillarsH5982, andH853 various bronzeH5178 articlesH3627.
9When KingH4428 TouH85835 of HamathH2574 heardH8085 thatH3588 DavidH1732 had defeatedH5221 the entireH3605 armyH2428 of HadadezerH1909 kingH4428 of ZobahH6678, 10he sentH7971 his sonH1121 HadoramH19136 to greetH7592 KingH4428 DavidH1732 and bless himH7965H1288 forH5921 fightingH3898 and defeatingH5221 HadadezerH1909, who had beenH1961 at warH4421 with TouH8583. Hadoram brought all kindsH3605 of articlesH3627 of goldH2091 and silverH3701 and bronzeH5178, 11andH1571 KingH4428 DavidH1732 dedicatedH6942 theseH853 to the LORDH3068, along withH5973 the silverH3701 and goldH2091 he had carried offH5375 from allH3605 these nationsH1471—from EdomH123 and MoabH4124, and from the AmmonitesH1121H5983, PhilistinesH6430, and AmalekitesH6002.
12Moreover, AbishaiH52 sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 struck downH5221 eighteenH8083H6240 thousandH505 EdomitesH123 in the ValleyH1516 of SaltH4417. 13He placedH7760 garrisonsH5333 in EdomH123, and allH3605 the EdomitesH123 wereH1961 subjectH5650 to DavidH1732. So the LORDH3068 made DavidH1732 victoriousH3467 whereverH3605 he wentH1980.
David’s Officers

15JoabH3097 sonH1121 of ZeruiahH6870 was overH5921 the armyH6635; JehoshaphatH3092 sonH1121 of AhiludH286 was the recorderH2142; 16ZadokH6659 sonH1121 of AhitubH285 and AhimelechH407 sonH1121 of AbiatharH54 were priestsH3548; ShavshaH77988 was the scribeH5608; 17BenaiahH1141 sonH1121 of JehoiadaH3077 was overH5921 the CherethitesH3774 and PelethitesH6432; and David’sH1732 sonsH1121 were chief officialsH7223 at the king’sH4428 sideH3027.
