Ecclesiastes 6

1There is an evilH7451 which I have seenH7200 under the sunH8121, and it is heavy upon menH120: 2a manH376 to whom GodH430 giveth richesH6239, wealthH6239, and honorH3519, so that he lacketh nothing for his soulH5315 of all that he desireth, yet GodH430 giveth him not power to eatH398 thereof, but an alienH5237 eateth it; this is vanityH1892, and it is an evilH7451 disease. 3If a manH376 beget a hundredH3967 childrenH3205, and liveH2421 manyH7227 yearsH8141, so that the daysH3117 of his yearsH8141 are manyH7227, but his soulH5315 beH1961 not filled with goodH2896, and moreover he have no burialH6900; I sayH559, that an untimely birthH3205 is betterH2896 than he: 4for it cometh in vanityH1892, and departeth in darknessH2822, and the nameH8034 thereof is coveredH3680 with darknessH2822; 5moreover it hath not seenH7200 the sunH8121 nor knownH3045 it; this hath rest rather than the other: 6yea, though he liveH2421 a thousandH505 yearsH8141 twice told, and yet enjoy no goodH2896, do not all goH1980 to oneH259 placeH4725?

7All the laborH5999 of manH120 is for his mouthH6310, and yet the appetiteH5315 is not filledH4390. 8For what advantageH3148 hath the wiseH2450 moreH4480 than the foolH3684? or what hath the poorH6041 man, that knoweth howH4100 to walkH1980 before the living? 9Better is the sight of the eyesH5869 than the wandering of the desireH5315: this alsoH1571 is vanityH1892 and a striving after windH7307.

10Whatsoever hath beenH1961, the nameH8034 thereof was given long ago; and it is knownH3045 what manH120 is; neither can he contend with him that is mightier than he. 11Seeing there are manyH7235 thingsH1697 that increaseH7235 vanityH1892, what is manH120 the better? 12For who knoweth what is goodH2896 for manH120 in his life, all the daysH3117 of his vain life which he spendeth as a shadowH6738? for who can tellH5046 a manH120 what shall beH1961 after him under the sunH8121?
