Joshua 5:1-9
1Now it cameH1961 aboutH1961 when allH3605 the kingsH4428 of the AmoritesH567 whoH834 were beyondH5676 the JordanH3383 to the westH3220, and allH3605 the kingsH4428 of the 1CanaanitesH3669 whoH834 were by the seaH3220, 2heardH8085 howH854H834 the LordH3068 had driedH3001 upH3001 the watersH4325 of the JordanH3383 beforeH4480H6440 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 untilH5704 3they had crossedH5674, that their heartsH3824 meltedH4549, and there was noH3808 spiritH7307 in them anyH5750 longerH5750 becauseH4480H6440 of the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478.
2At that timeH6256 the LordH3068 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, “MakeH6213 for yourself 4flintH6864 knivesH2719 and circumciseH4135 againH7725 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 the secondH8145 timeH8145.” 3So JoshuaH3091 madeH6213 himself flintH6864 knivesH2719 and circumcisedH4135 the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 at 5Gibeath-haaralothH1389H6190. 4ThisH2088 is the reasonH1697 whyH834 JoshuaH3091 circumcisedH4135 them: 6allH3605 the peopleH5971 who cameH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714 who were malesH2145, allH3605 the menH376 of warH4421, diedH4191 in the wildernessH4057 along the wayH1870 after they cameH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714. 5For allH3605 the peopleH5971 who cameH3318 outH3318 were circumcisedH4135, but allH3605 the peopleH5971 who were bornH3209 in the wildernessH4057 along the wayH1870 as they cameH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714 had not been circumcisedH4135. 6For the sonsH1121 of IsraelH3478 walkedH1980 7fortyH705 yearsH8141 in the wildernessH4057, untilH5704 allH3605 the nationH1471, that is, the menH376 of warH4421 who cameH3318 outH3318 of EgyptH4714, 8perishedH8552 becauseH834 they did not listenH8085 to the voiceH6963 of the LordH3068, 9to whomH834 the LordH3068 had swornH7650 that He would not let them seeH7200 the landH776 whichH834 the LordH3068 had swornH7650 to their fathersH1 to giveH5414 us, a landH776 flowingH2100 with milkH2461 and honeyH1706. 7So their childrenH1121 whom He raisedH6965 upH6965 inH8478 their placeH8478, JoshuaH3091 10circumcisedH4135; for they were uncircumcisedH6189, becauseH3588 they had not circumcisedH4135 them along the wayH1870.
8Now whenH3512 they had finishedH8552 circumcisingH4135 allH3605 the nationH1471, they remainedH3427 inH8478 their placesH8478 in the campH4264 untilH5704 they recoveredH2421. 9Then the LordH3068 saidH559 to JoshuaH3091, “TodayH3117 I have rolledH1556 awayH1556 11the shameH2781 of EgyptH4714 from you.” So the nameH8034 of that placeH4725 is calledH7121 12GilgalH1537 to thisH2088 dayH3117.
