Matthew 27:24-29
24Now when Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that 1a riot was starting, he took water and 2washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of 3this Man’s blood; 4you yourselves shall see.” 25And all the people replied, “5His blood shall be on us and on our children!” 26Then he released Barabbas 6for them; but after having Jesus 7flogged, he handed Him over to be crucified.
278Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into 9the 10Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman 1112cohort to Him. 28And they stripped Him and 13put a red 14cloak on Him. 2915And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and put a 16reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “17Hail, King of the Jews!”
