Matthew 27:24-29

24When Pilate saw that he was accomplishing nothing, but rather that 1a riot was starting, he took water and 2washed his hands in front of the crowd, saying, “I am innocent of 3this Man’s blood; 4see to that yourselves.” 25And all the people said, “5His blood shall be on us and on our children!” 26Then he released Barabbas 6for them; but after having Jesus 7scourged, he handed Him over to be crucified.

278Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into 9the 10Praetorium and gathered the whole Roman 1112cohort around Him. 28They stripped Him and 13put a scarlet robe on Him. 2914And after twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a 15reed in His right hand; and they knelt down before Him and mocked Him, saying, “16Hail, King of the Jews!”
