Matthew 11:12-24

12And 1from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven has been treated violently, and violent men take it by force. 13For all the Prophets and the Law prophesied until John. 14And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is 2Elijah who 3was to come. 154The one who has ears to hear, 5let him hear.

16“But to what shall I compare this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces, who call out to the other children, 17and say, ‘We played the flute for you, and you did not dance; we sang a song of mourning, and you did not 6mourn.’ 18For John came neither 7eating nor 8drinking, and they say, ‘9He has a demon!’ 19The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Behold, a gluttonous man and a 10heavy drinker, 11a friend of tax collectors and 12sinners!’ And yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds.”

20Then He began to reprimand the cities in which most of His 1314miracles were done, because they did not repent. 21“15Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, 16Bethsaida! For if the 17miracles that occurred in you had occurred in 18Tyre and 19Sidon, they would have repented long ago in 2021sackcloth and ashes. 22Nevertheless I say to you, 22it will be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon on 23the day of judgment than for you. 23And you, 24Capernaum, will not be exalted to heaven, will you? You will be 25brought down to 26Hades! For if the 27miracles that occurred in you had occurred in 28Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24Nevertheless I say to you that 29it will be more tolerable for the land of 30Sodom on the day of judgment, than for you.”
