Matthew 1:16-25
16Jacob fathered Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, 1who is called the 2Messiah.
17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the 3deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the 4deportation to Babylon to the 5Messiah, fourteen generations.
18Now the birth of Jesus the 6Messiah was as follows: when His 7mother Mary had been 8betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was 9found to be pregnant by the Holy Spirit. 19And her husband Joseph, since he was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her, planned to 1011send her away secretly. 20But when he had thought this over, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “12Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for 13the Child who has been conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21She will give birth to a Son; and 14you shall name Him Jesus, for 15He 16will save His people from their sins.” 22Now all this 17took place so that what was 18spoken by the Lord through 19the prophet would be fulfilled: 23“20Behold, the virgin will 2122conceive and give birth to a Son, and they shall name Him 23Immanuel,” which translated means, “24God with us.” 24And Joseph awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 2525but kept her a virgin until she 26gave birth to a Son; and 27he named Him Jesus.
