Matthew 1:16-25

16Jacob was the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, by whom Jesus was born, 1who is called 2the Messiah.

17So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations; from David to the 3deportation to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the 4deportation to Babylon to 5the Messiah, fourteen generations.

18Now the birth of Jesus 6Christ was as follows: when His 7mother Mary had been 8betrothed to Joseph, before they came together she was 9found to be with child by the Holy Spirit. 19And Joseph her husband, being a righteous man and not wanting to disgrace her, planned 1011to send her away secretly. 20But when he had considered this, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “12Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for 13the Child who has been 14conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. 21She will bear a Son; and 15you shall call His name Jesus, for 16He 17will save His people from their sins.” 22Now all this 18took place to fulfill what was 19spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23“20Behold, the virgin shall be with 21child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name 22Immanuel,” which translated means, “23God with us.” 24And Joseph 24awoke from his sleep and did as the angel of the Lord commanded him, and took Mary as his wife, 2525but kept her a virgin until she 26gave birth to a Son; and 27he called His name Jesus.
