John 6:41-71

41 1So then the Jews were complaining about Him because He said, “I am the bread that 2came down out of heaven.” 42And they were saying, “3Is this not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother 4we know? How does He now say, ‘5I have come down out of heaven’?” 43Jesus answered and said to them, “Stop complaining among yourselves. 44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me 6draws him; and I will 7raise him up on the last day. 45It is written 8in the Prophets: ‘9And they shall all be 10taught of God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me. 46 11Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father. 47Truly, truly, I say to you, the one who believes 12has eternal life. 48 13I am the bread of life. 49 14Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. 50This is the bread that 15comes down out of heaven, so that anyone may eat from it and 16not die. 51 17I am the living bread that 18came down out of heaven; if anyone eats from this bread, 19he will live forever; and the bread which I will give 20for the life of the world also is 21My flesh.”

52 22Then the Jews 23began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?” 53So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of 24the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves. 54The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will 25raise him up on the last day. 55For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink. 56The one who eats My flesh and drinks My blood 26remains in Me, and I in him. 57Just as the 27living Father 28sent Me, and I live because of the Father, the one who eats Me, he also will live because of Me. 58This is the bread that 29came down out of heaven, not as 30the fathers ate and died; the one who eats this bread 31will live forever.” 59These things He said 32in the synagogue as He taught 33in Capernaum.

60So then many of His 34disciples, when they heard this, said, “35This statement is very 36unpleasant; who can listen to it?” 61But Jesus, 37aware that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them, “Is this 38 39offensive to you? 62What then if you see 40the Son of Man 41ascending to where He was before? 63 42It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh provides no benefit; 43the words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and are life. 64But there are 44some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus 45knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and 46who it was who would 47betray Him. 65And He was saying, “For this reason I have 48told you that no one can come to Me unless 49it has been granted him from the Father.”

66As a result of this many of His 50disciples 51left, and would no longer walk with Him. 67So Jesus said to 52the twelve, “You do not want to leave also, do you?” 68 53Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have 54words of eternal life. 69And we have already believed and have come to know that You are 55the Holy One of God.” 70Jesus answered them, “56Did I Myself not choose you, 57the twelve? And yet one of you is 58a devil.” 71Now He meant Judas 59the son of Simon Iscariot; for he, 60one of 61the twelve, 62was going to betray Him.
