John 1:16-51
16For of His 1fullness 2we have all received, and 3grace upon grace. 17For 4the Law was given through Moses; 5grace and 6truth 7were realized through Jesus Christ. 188No one has seen God at any time; 9God the only Son, who is 10in the 11arms of the Father, 12He has 13explained Him.
19This is 14the testimony of John, when 15the Jews sent priests and Levites to him 16from Jerusalem to ask him, “Who are you?” 20And he confessed and did not deny; and this is what he confessed: “17I am not the 18Christ.” 21And so they asked him, “What then? Are you 19Elijah?” And he said, “I am not.” “Are you 20the Prophet?” And he answered, “No.” 22Then they said to him, “Who are you? Tell us, so that we may give an answer to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?” 23He said, “I am 21the voice of one calling 22out in the wilderness, ‘Make the way of the Lord straight,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”
24And the messengers had been sent from the Pharisees. 25They asked him, and said to him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you are not the 23Christ, nor Elijah, nor 24the Prophet?” 26John answered them, saying, “25I baptize 26in water, but among you stands One whom you do not know. 27It is 27He who comes after me, of whom I am not worthy even to untie the 28strap of His sandal.” 28These things took place in Bethany 29beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing people.
29The next day he saw Jesus coming to him, and said, “Behold, 30the Lamb of God who 31takes away the sin of the world! 30This is He in behalf of whom I said, ‘32After me is coming a Man who has proved to be 33my superior, 34because He existed before me.’ 31And I did not recognize 35Him, but so that He would be revealed to Israel, I came baptizing 36in water.” 32And John 37testified, saying, “38I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove out of heaven, and He remained upon Him. 33And I did not recognize 39Him, but He who sent me to baptize 40in water said to me, ‘He upon whom you see the Spirit descending and remaining upon Him, 41this is the One who baptizes 42in the Holy Spirit.’ 34And I myself have seen, and have testified that this is 43the 44Son of God.”
35Again 45the next day John was standing 46with two of his disciples, 36and he looked at Jesus as He walked, and said, “Behold, 47the Lamb of God!” 37And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus. 38And Jesus turned and saw them following, and said to them, “What are you seeking?” They said to Him, “48Rabbi (which translated means Teacher), where are You staying?” 39He said to them, “Come, and you will see.” So they came and saw where He was staying, and they stayed with Him that day; it was about the 49tenth hour. 4050One of the two who heard John speak, and followed Him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. 41He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, “We have found the 51Messiah” (which translated means 52Christ). 42He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon the son of 5354John; you shall be called 55Cephas” (which is translated 5657Peter).
4358The next day He 59decided to go to 60Galilee, and He found 61Philip. And Jesus said to him, “62Follow Me.” 44Now 63Philip was from 64Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter. 4565Philip found 66Nathanael and said to him, “We have found Him of whom 67Moses wrote in the Law, and 68the prophets also wrote: Jesus 69the son of Joseph, from 70Nazareth!” 46Nathanael said to him, “71Can anything good be from Nazareth?” 72Philip said to him, “Come and see.” 47Jesus saw Nathanael coming to Him, and said of him, “Here is truly an 73Israelite, in whom there is no deceit!” 48Nathanael said to Him, “How do You know me?” Jesus answered and said to him, “Before 74Philip called you, when you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” 49Nathanael answered Him, “75Rabbi, You are 76the Son of God; You are the 77King of Israel!” 50Jesus answered and said to him, “Because I said to you that I saw you under the fig tree, do you believe? You will see greater things than these.” 51And He said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, you will see 78heaven opened and 79the angels of God ascending and descending on 80the Son of Man.”
