Job 22
Eliphaz Accuses and Exhorts Job
1Then Eliphaz the Temanite responded,2“Can a strong 1man be of use to God, Or a wise one be useful to himself?3Is it any pleasure to 2the Almighty if you are righteous, Or gain if you make your ways blameless?4Is it because of your 3reverence that He punishes you, That He 4enters into judgment against you?5Is 5your wickedness not abundant, And is there no end to your guilty deeds?6For you have 6seized pledges from your brothers without cause, And 78stripped people naked.7You have 9given the weary no water to drink, And you have 10withheld bread from the hungry.8But the earth 11belongs to the 12powerful man, And 13the one who is honorable dwells on it.9You have sent 14widows away empty, And the 15strength of 16orphans has been crushed.10Therefore 17traps surround you, And sudden 18dread terrifies you,11Or 19darkness, so that you cannot see, And a 20flood of water covers you.
12“Is God not 21in the height of heaven? Look also at the 22highest stars, how high they are!13But you say, ‘23What does God know? Can He judge through the thick darkness?1424Clouds are a hiding place for Him, so that He cannot see; And He walks on the 25vault of heaven.’15Will you keep to the ancient path Which 26wicked people have walked,16Who were snatched away 27before their time, Whose 28foundations were 29washed away by a river?17They 30said to God, ‘Go away from us!’ And ‘What can 31the Almighty do to them?’18Yet He 32filled their houses with good things; But 33the advice of the wicked is far from me.19The 34righteous see and are glad, And the innocent mock them, saying,20‘Truly our enemies are eliminated, And 35fire has consumed their 36abundance.’
21“37Be reconciled with Him, and be at peace; Thereby good will come to you.22Please receive 3839instruction from His mouth, And put His words in your heart.23If you 40return to 41the Almighty, you will be 42restored; If you 43remove injustice far from your tent,24And 44put your 45gold in the dust, And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks,25Then 46the Almighty will be your 47gold And abundant silver to you.26For then you will 48take pleasure in 49the Almighty And lift up your face to God.27You will 50pray to Him, and 51He will hear you; And you will pay your vows.28You will also decide something, and it will be established for you; And 52light will shine on your ways.29When 53they have brought you low, you will speak with 54confidence, And He will save the 5556humble person.30He will rescue one who is not innocent, And he will be 57rescued due to the cleanness of your hands.”
