Jeremiah 41:2-7

2Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the ten men who were with him rose up, and 1struck and killed Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, with the sword and 2put to death the one 3whom the king of Babylon had appointed over the land. 3Ishmael also struck and killed all the Jews who were with him, that is with Gedaliah in Mizpah, and the Chaldeans who were found there, the men of war.

4Now it happened on the 4next day after the killing of Gedaliah, when no one knew about it, 5that eighty men 5came from 6Shechem, from 7Shiloh, and from 8Samaria with 9their beards shaved off, their clothes torn, and 10their bodies 11gashed, having grain offerings and incense in their hands to bring to the 12house of the Lord. 6Then Ishmael the son of Nethaniah left Mizpah to meet them, 13weeping as he went; and as he met them, he said to them, “Come to Gedaliah the son of Ahikam!” 7Yet it turned out that as soon as they came inside the city, Ishmael the son of Nethaniah and the men who were with him 14slaughtered them and threw them into the cistern.
