Acts 2:4-19
4And they were all 1filled with the Holy Spirit and began to 2speak with different 3tongues, as the Spirit was giving them the ability to speak out.
5Now there were Jews residing in Jerusalem, 4devout men from every nation under heaven. 6And when 5this sound occurred, the crowd came together and they were bewildered, because each one of them was hearing them speak in his own 6language. 77They were amazed and astonished, saying, “8Why, are not all these who are speaking 9Galileans? 8And how is it that we each hear them in our own 10language 11to which we were born? 9Parthians, Medes, and Elamites, and residents of Mesopotamia, Judea, and 12Cappadocia, 13Pontus and 1415Asia, 1016Phrygia and 17Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya around 18Cyrene, and 1920visitors from Rome, both Jews and 2122proselytes, 11Cretans and Arabs--we hear them speaking in our own 23tongues of the mighty deeds of God.” 12And 24they all continued in amazement and great perplexity, saying to one another, “What does this mean?” 13But others were jeering and saying, “25They are full of 26sweet wine!”
14But Peter, taking his stand with 27the other eleven, raised his voice and declared to them: “Men of Judea and all you who live in Jerusalem, 28know this, and pay attention to my words. 15For these people are not drunk, as you assume, 29since it is only the 30third hour of the day; 16but this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:17‘31And it shall be in the last days,’ God says, ‘That I will pour out My Spirit on all 32mankind; And your sons and your daughters will prophesy, And your young men will see visions, And your old men will 33have dreams;18And even on My male and female 34servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days, And they will prophesy.19And I will 35display wonders in the sky above And signs on the earth below, Blood, fire, and 36vapor of smoke.
