Acts 13:17-35

17The God of this people Israel 1chose our fathers and 23made the people great during their stay in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm 4He led them out from it. 18For 5a period of about forty years 6He put up with them in the wilderness. 197When He had destroyed 8seven nations in the land of Canaan, He 9distributed their land as an inheritance--all of which took 10about 450 years. 20After these things He 11gave them judges until 12Samuel the prophet. 21Then they 13asked for a king, and God gave them 14Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years. 22After He had 15removed him, He raised up David to be their king, concerning whom He also testified and said, ‘16I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after My heart, who will do all My 17will.’ 2318From the descendants of this man, 19according to promise, God has brought to Israel 20a Savior, Jesus, 24after 21John had proclaimed, before 22His coming, a 23baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel. 25And while John 24was completing his course, 25he kept saying, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not He. But behold, One is coming after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

26“26Brothers, sons of Abraham’s family, and those among you who fear God, to us the message of 27this salvation has been sent. 27For those who live in Jerusalem, and their 28rulers, 29recognizing neither Him nor the 30declarations of 31the prophets which are 32read every Sabbath, fulfilled these by condemning Him. 28And though they found no grounds for putting Him to death, they 33asked Pilate that He be executed. 29When they had 34carried out everything that was written concerning Him, 35they took Him down from the 3637cross and 38laid Him in a tomb. 30But God 39raised Him from the dead; 31and for many days 40He appeared to those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, the very ones who are now 41His witnesses to the people. 32And we 42preach to you the good news of 43the promise made to the fathers, 33that God has fulfilled this promise to those of us who are the descendants by 44raising Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘45You are My Son; today I have fathered You.’ 34As for the fact that He 46raised Him from the dead, never again to return to decay, He has spoken in this way: ‘47I will give you the holy and faithful mercies of David.’ 35Therefore, He also says in another Psalm: ‘48You will not 49allow Your 50Holy One to 51undergo decay.’
