1 Thessalonians 2:1-7
1For you yourselves know, brothers and sisters, that our 12reception among you 3was not in vain,
2but after we had already suffered and been 4treated abusively in 5Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God 6to speak to you the 7gospel of God 8amid much 910opposition.
3For our 11exhortation does not come from 12error or 13impurity or 14by way of 15deceit;
416but just as we have been approved by God to be 17entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, 18not intending to please people, but to please God, who 1920examines our hearts.
5For we never came 21with flattering speech, as you know, nor with 22a pretext 23for greed--24God is our witness--
6nor did we 25seek honor from people, either from you or from others, though 26we could have 27asserted our authority as 28apostles of Christ.
7But we 29proved to be 3031gentle 32among you. 33As a nursing mother 34tenderly cares for her own children,
