1 Peter 1:5-25

5who are 1protected by the power of God 2through faith for 3a salvation ready 4to be revealed in the last time. 6 5In this you greatly rejoice, even though now 6for a little while, 7if necessary, you have been distressed by 8various 9trials, 7so that the 10 11proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which perishes 12though tested by fire, 13may be found to result in praise, glory, and honor at 14the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8and 15though you have not seen Him, you 16love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and 17full of glory, 9obtaining as 18the outcome of your faith, the salvation of 19your souls.

10 20As to this salvation, the prophets who 21prophesied of the 22grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 11 23seeking to know what person or time 24the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He 25predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories 26to follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who 27preached the gospel to you by 28the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things into which 29angels long to 30look.

13Therefore, 31 32prepare your minds for action, 33 34keep sober in spirit, set your 35hope completely on the 36grace to be brought to you at 37the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As 38 39obedient children, do not 40 41be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your 42ignorance, 15but 43 44like the Holy One who called you, 45 46be holy yourselves also 47in all your behavior; 16because it is written: “48You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

17If you 49address as Father the One who 50impartially 51judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves 52in fear during the time of your 53stay on earth; 18knowing that you were not 54 55redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your 56futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but with precious 57blood, as of a 58lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20For He was 59foreknown before 60the foundation of the world, but has 61appeared 62in these last times 63for the sake of you 21who through Him are 64believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and 65gave Him glory, so that your faith and 66hope are in God.

22Since you have 67purified your souls 68in obedience to the truth for a 69sincere love of the brothers and sisters, fervently love one another from 70the heart, 23for you have been 71born again 72not of seed which is perishable, but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring 73word of God. 24For, “74All flesh is like grass, And all its glory is like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off,25 75But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is 76the word which was 77preached to you.
