1 Peter 1:5-25
5who are 1protected by the power of God 2through faith for 3a salvation ready 4to be revealed in the last time. 65In this you greatly rejoice, even though now 6for a little while, 7if necessary, you have been distressed by 8various 9trials, 7so that the 1011proof of your faith, being more precious than gold which 12is perishable, 13even though tested by fire, 14may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at 15the revelation of Jesus Christ; 8and 16though you have not seen Him, you 17love Him, and though you do not see Him now, but believe in Him, you greatly rejoice with joy inexpressible and 18full of glory, 9obtaining as 19the outcome of your faith the salvation of 20your souls.
1021As to this salvation, the prophets who 22prophesied of the 23grace that would come to you made careful searches and inquiries, 1124seeking to know what person or time 25the Spirit of Christ within them was indicating as He 26predicted the sufferings of Christ and the glories 27to follow. 12It was revealed to them that they were not serving themselves, but you, in these things which now have been announced to you through those who 28preached the gospel to you by 29the Holy Spirit sent from heaven--things into which 30angels long to 31look.
13Therefore, 3233prepare your minds for action, 3435keep sober in spirit, fix your 36hope completely on the 37grace 38to be brought to you at 39the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14As 4041obedient children, do not 4243be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your 44ignorance, 15but 4546like the Holy One who called you, 4748be holy yourselves also 49in all your behavior; 16because it is written, “50You shall be holy, for I am holy.”
17If you 51address as Father the One who 52impartially 53judges according to each one’s work, conduct yourselves 54in fear during the time of your 55stay on earth; 18knowing that you were not 5657redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your 58futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, 19but with precious 59blood, as of a 60lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. 20For He was 61foreknown before 62the foundation of the world, but has 63appeared 64in these last times 65for the sake of you 21who through Him are 66believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and 67gave Him glory, so that your faith and 68hope are in God.
22Since you have 69in obedience to the truth 70purified your souls for a 7172sincere love of the brethren, fervently love one another from 73the heart, 23for you have been 74born again 75not of seed which is perishable but imperishable, that is, through the living and enduring 76word of God. 24For, “77All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off,2578But the word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is 79the word which was 80preached to you.
