1 Corinthians 1:8-31

81who will also 2confirm you to the end, blameless on 3the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 94God is faithful, through whom you were 5called into 6fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

10Now 7I urge you, 8brothers and sisters, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all 9agree and that there be no 1011divisions among you, but that you be 12made complete in 13the same mind and in the same judgment. 11For I have been informed concerning you, my brothers and sisters, by Chloe’s people, that there are quarrels among you. 12Now I mean this, that 14each one of you is saying, “I am 15with Paul,” 16or “I am 17with 18Apollos,” 19or “I am 20with 2122Cephas,” 23or “I am 24with Christ.” 1325Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you 26baptized 27in the name of Paul? 14I am thankful that I 28baptized none of you except 29Crispus and 30Gaius, 15so that no one would say you were baptized 31in my name! 16But I did baptize the 32household of Stephanas also; beyond that, I do not know if I baptized anyone else. 1733For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, 34not with 35cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made of no effect.

18For the word of the cross is 36foolishness to 37those who 38are perishing, but to us who 39are being saved it is 40the power of God. 19For it is written: “41I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the understanding of those who have understanding, I will confound.” 2042Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of 43this age? Has God not 44made foolish the wisdom of 45the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God 46the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, 47God 48was pleased through the 49foolishness of the 50message preached to 51save those who believe. 22For indeed 52Jews ask for 53signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23but we preach 5455Christ crucified, 56to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles 57foolishness, 24but to those who are 58the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ 59the power of God and 60the wisdom of God. 25For the 61foolishness of God is wiser than mankind, and 62the weakness of God is stronger than mankind.

26For 63consider your 64calling, brothers and sisters, that there were 65not many wise according to 66the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27but 67God has chosen the foolish things of 68the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of 69the world to shame the things which are strong, 28and the 70insignificant things of 71the world and the despised God has chosen, 72the things that are not, so that He may 73nullify the things that are, 29so that 74no 75human may boast before God. 30But it is 76due to Him that you are in 77Christ Jesus, who became to us 78wisdom from God, 79and 80righteousness and 81sanctification, and 82redemption, 31so that, just as it is written: “83Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
