1 Corinthians 1:14-31
14I am thankful that I 1baptized none of you except 2Crispus and 3Gaius, 15so that no one would say you were baptized 4in my name! 16But I did baptize the 5household of Stephanas also; beyond that, I do not know if I baptized anyone else. 176For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, 7not with 8cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made of no effect.
18For the word of the cross is 9foolishness to 10those who 11are perishing, but to us who 12are being saved it is 13the power of God. 19For it is written: “14I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the understanding of those who have understanding, I will confound.” 2015Where is the wise person? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of 16this age? Has God not 17made foolish the wisdom of 18the world? 21For since in the wisdom of God 19the world through its wisdom did not come to know God, 20God 21was pleased through the 22foolishness of the 23message preached to 24save those who believe. 22For indeed 25Jews ask for 26signs and Greeks search for wisdom; 23but we preach 2728Christ crucified, 29to Jews a stumbling block, and to Gentiles 30foolishness, 24but to those who are 31the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ 32the power of God and 33the wisdom of God. 25For the 34foolishness of God is wiser than mankind, and 35the weakness of God is stronger than mankind.
26For 36consider your 37calling, brothers and sisters, that there were 38not many wise according to 39the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble; 27but 40God has chosen the foolish things of 41the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of 42the world to shame the things which are strong, 28and the 43insignificant things of 44the world and the despised God has chosen, 45the things that are not, so that He may 46nullify the things that are, 29so that 47no 48human may boast before God. 30But it is 49due to Him that you are in 50Christ Jesus, who became to us 51wisdom from God, 52and 53righteousness and 54sanctification, and 55redemption, 31so that, just as it is written: “56Let the one who boasts, boast in the Lord.”
