Commentaries on 1 Chronicles 6:9
- Barnes’ Notes on the Bible · v. 9Ahimaaz begat Azariah - It must, apparently, be this Azariah, and not the son of Johanan 1 Chronicles 6:10, who was high priest at the dedication of Solomon‘s Temple. For Zadok, who lived into the reign of Solomon 1 Kings 4:4 cannot have been succeeded by a great-great-grandson. The notice in 1 Chronicles 6:10, which is attached to the second Azariah, must, beyond a doubt, belong properly to the first.Read the comment
- Tyndale Open Study Notes · v. 2-15After the exile in Babylon, the Judean community needed to confirm the legitimate ancestry of the priests. This genealogy of Kohath linked the ancestors from the Pentateuch to the high priests up to Judah's exile in 586 BC. Other records connected the priests after the exile to this lineage (see Ezra 3:2; 7:1–6; Haggai 1:1). Not all high priests were included in this list.Read the comment
- Jamieson–Fausset–Brown Commentary · v. 1-481Ch 6:1-48. Line of the Priests. 5. Uzzi--It is supposed that, in his days, the high priesthood was, for unrecorded reasons, transferred from Eleazar's family to Ithamar's, in which it continued for several generations.Read the comment
