Ruth 4:2-11
2He tookH3947 tenH6235 menH376 of the 1eldersH2205 of the cityH5892 and saidH559, “SitH3427 downH3427 hereH6311.” So they satH3427 downH3427. 3Then he saidH559 to the 2closestH1350 relativeH1350, “NaomiH5281, who has comeH7725 backH7725 from the landH7704 of MoabH4124, has to sellH4376 the pieceH2513 of landH7704 3whichH834 belonged to our brotherH251 ElimelechH458. 4So I thoughtH559 to 4informH241H1540 you, sayingH559, ‘5BuyH7069 it beforeH5048 those who are sittingH3427 here, and beforeH5048 the eldersH2205 of my peopleH5971. IfH518 you will redeemH1350 it, redeemH1350 it; but ifH518 6not, tellH5046 me that I may knowH3045; for 7thereH369 is noH369 oneH369 but you to redeemH1350 it, and I am afterH310 you.’” And he saidH559, “I will redeemH1350 it.” 5Then BoazH1162 saidH559, “On the dayH3117 you buyH7069 the fieldH7704 from the handH3027 of NaomiH5281, you must also acquireH7069 RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, the widowH802 of the deceasedH4191, in order 8to raiseH6965 up the nameH8034 of the deceasedH4191 on his inheritanceH5159.” 69The 10closestH1350 relativeH1350 saidH559, “I cannotH3201H3808 redeemH1350 it for myself, becauseH6435 I would 11jeopardizeH7843 my own inheritanceH5159. RedeemH1350 it for yourself; you may have my rightH1353 of redemptionH1353, for I cannotH3201H3808 redeemH1350 it.”
7Now thisH2088 was 12the custom in formerH6440 timesH6440 in IsraelH3478 concerningH5921 the redemptionH1353 and the exchangeH8545 of land to confirmH6965 anyH3605 matterH1697: a manH376 removedH8025 his sandalH5275 and gaveH5414 it to anotherH7453; and thisH2088 was the manner of attestationH8584 in IsraelH3478. 8So the 13closestH1350 relativeH1350 saidH559 to BoazH1162, “BuyH7069 it for yourself.” And he removedH8025 his sandalH5275. 9Then BoazH1162 saidH559 to the eldersH2205 and allH3605 the peopleH5971, “You are witnessesH5707 todayH3117 that I have boughtH7069 from the handH3027 of NaomiH5281 allH3605 that belonged to ElimelechH458 and allH3605 that belonged to ChilionH3630 and MahlonH4248. 10MoreoverH1571, I have acquiredH7069 RuthH7327 the MoabitessH4125, the widowH802 of MahlonH4248, to be my wifeH802 in order to raiseH6965 up the nameH8034 of the deceasedH4191 on his inheritanceH5159, so 14that the nameH8034 of the deceasedH4191 will not be cutH3772 offH3772 from his brothersH251 or from the 15courtH8179 of his birth placeH4725; you are witnessesH5707 todayH3117.” 11AllH3605 the peopleH5971 whoH834 were in the 16courtH8179, and the eldersH2205, saidH559, “We are witnessesH5707. May the LordH3068 makeH5414 the womanH802 who is comingH935 into your homeH1004 17like RachelH7354 and LeahH3812, bothH8147 of whomH834 builtH1129 the houseH1004 of IsraelH3478; and may you achieveH6213 18wealthH2428 in EphrathahH672 and 19becomeH7121 famousH7121H8034 in BethlehemH1035.
