Song of Songs 1:5-17

“1I am black but 2lovely, O 3daughters of Jerusalem, Like the 4tents of 5Kedar, Like the curtains of Solomon.6Do not stare at me because I am 6swarthy, For the sun has burned me. My 7mother’s sons were angry with me; They made me 8caretaker of the vineyards, But I have not taken care of my own vineyard.7Tell me, O you 9whom my soul loves, Where do you 10pasture your flock, Where do you make it 11lie down at noon? For why should I be like one who 12veils herself Beside the flocks of your 13companions?”

“14If you yourself do not know, 15Most beautiful among women, Go forth on the trail of the flock And pasture your young goats By the tents of the shepherds.

“16To me, 17my darling, you are like My 18mare among the chariots of Pharaoh.10Your 19cheeks are lovely with ornaments, Your neck with strings of 20beads.”

“21We will make for you ornaments of gold With beads of silver.”

“22While the king was at his 23table, My 24 25perfume gave forth its fragrance.13My beloved is to me a pouch of 26myrrh Which lies all night between my breasts.14My beloved is to me a cluster of 27henna blossoms In the vineyards of 28Engedi.”

“29 30 31How beautiful you are, my darling, 32How beautiful you are! Your 33eyes are like doves.”

“34 35How handsome you are, 36my beloved, And so pleasant! Indeed, our couch is luxuriant!17The beams of our houses are 37cedars, Our rafters, 38 39cypresses.
