1Nowthe boyוְהַנַּ֧עַרve.ha.Na.'arH5288Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֛לshe.mu.'ElH8050was ministeringמְשָׁרֵ֥תme.sha.RetH8334to the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440Eliעֵלִ֑י'e.LiH5941. Andwordוּדְבַר־u.de.var-H1697from the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068was rareיָקָר֙ya.KarH3368in thoseהָהֵ֔םha.HemH1992daysבַּיָּמִ֣יםbai.ya.MimH3117,visionsחָז֖וֹןcha.ZonH2377were infrequentאֵ֥ין נִפְרָֽץ׃ ס'ein nif.RatzH369 H6555.

2It happenedוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961at that timeבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117as Eliוְעֵלִ֖יve.'e.LiH5941was lyingH7901downH7901in his placeבִּמְקֹמ֑וֹbim.ko.MoH4725(nowhis eyesightוְעֵינָיו֙ve.'ei.novH5869had begunהֵחֵ֣לּוּhe.Che.luH2490to grow dimכֵה֔וֹתkhe.HotH3544andhe couldיוּכַ֖לyu.KhalH3201not seeלִרְאֽוֹת׃lir.'otH7200well),

3andthe lampוְנֵ֤רve.NerH5216of Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430had not yetטֶ֣רֶםTe.remH2962goneיִכְבֶּ֔הyikh.BehH3518out, and Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵ֖לu.she.mu.'ElH8050was lyingH7901downH7901in the templeבְּהֵיכַ֣לbe.hei.KhalH1964of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068whereאֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֖ם'a.Sher- shamH834 H8033the arkאֲר֥וֹן'a.RonH727of Godאֱלֹהִֽים׃ פ'E.lo.HimH430was,

4that the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068calledוַיִּקְרָ֧אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050;and he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “HereH2009I am.”

5Then he ranוַיָּ֣רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323to Eliעֵלִ֗י'e.LiH5941and saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “HereH2009I am, for you calledקָרָ֣אתָka.Ra.taH7121me.” But he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I did not callקָרָ֖אתִיka.Ra.tiH7121,lieשְׁכָ֑בshe.KhavH7901downH7901againשׁ֣וּבshuvH7725.”So he wentוַיֵּ֖לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכָּֽב׃ סvai.yish.KavH7901.

6The Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068calledקְרֹ֣אke.Ro'H7121yetעוֹד֮'OdH5750againוַיֹּ֣סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254, “Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֒she.mu.'ElH8050!”So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050aroseוַיָּ֤קָםvai.Ya.komH6965and wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Eliעֵלִ֔י'e.LiH5941and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “HereH2009I am, for you calledקָרָ֖אתָka.Ra.taH7121me.” But heansweredוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I did not callקָרָ֥אתִיka.Ra.tiH7121,my sonבְנִ֖יve.NiH1121,lieשְׁכָֽב׃she.KhavH7901downH7901againשׁ֥וּבshuvH7725.”

7Now Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵ֕לu.she.mu.'ElH8050did not yetH2962knowיָדַ֣עya.Da'H3045the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,norH2962had the wordדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068yetH2962been revealedיִגָּלֶ֥הyi.ga.LehH1540to him.

8So the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068calledקְרֹא־ke.ro'-H7121Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֮she.mu.'ElH8050againוַיֹּ֨סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254for the thirdבַּשְּׁלִשִׁית֒ba.she.li.ShitH7992timeH7992.And he aroseוַיָּ֙קָם֙vai.Ya.komH6965and wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Eliעֵלִ֔י'e.LiH5941and saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “HereH2009I am, for you calledקָרָ֖אתָka.Ra.taH7121me.” Then Eliעֵלִ֔י'e.LiH5941discernedוַיָּ֣בֶןvai.Ya.venH995that the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068was callingקֹרֵ֥אko.Re'H7121the boyלַנָּֽעַר׃la.Na.'arH5288.

9And Eliעֵלִ֣י'e.LiH5941saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Samuelלִשְׁמוּאֵל֮lish.mu.'ElH8050, “Goלֵ֣ךְlekhH1980lieשְׁכָב֒she.KhavH7901downH7901,and it shall be ifאִם־'im-H518He callsיִקְרָ֣אyik.Ra'H7121you, that you shall sayוְאָֽמַרְתָּ֙ve.'a.mar.TaH559, ‘Speakדַּבֵּ֣רda.BerH1696, Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,for Your servantעַבְדֶּ֑ךָ'av.De.khaH5650is listeningשֹׁמֵ֖עַsho.Me.a'H8085.’”So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050wentוַיֵּ֣לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and layH7901downוַיִּשְׁכַּ֖בvai.yish.KavH7901in his placeבִּמְקוֹמֽוֹ׃bim.ko.MoH4725.

10Then the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068cameוַיָּבֹ֤אvai.ya.Vo'H935and stoodוַיִּתְיַצַּ֔בvai.yit.ya.TzavH3320and calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121as at otherכְפַֽעַם־khe.fa.'am-H6471timesבְּפַ֖עַםbe.Fa.'amH6471, “Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֣ל׀she.mu.'ElH8050!Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֑לshe.mu.'ElH8050!”And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Speakדַּבֵּ֔רda.BerH1696,for Your servantעַבְדֶּֽךָ׃ פ'av.De.khaH5650is listeningשֹׁמֵ֖עַsho.Me.a'H8085.”

11The Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050, “Beholdהִנֵּ֧הhi.NehH2009,I am about to doעֹשֶׂ֥ה'o.SehH6213a thingדָבָ֖רda.VarH1697in Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478at whichאֲשֶׁר֙'a.SherH834bothשְׁתֵּ֥יshe.TeiH8147earsאָזְנָֽיו׃'a.ze.NavH241of everyoneכָּל־kol-H3605who hearsשֹׁ֣מְע֔וֹsho.me.'OH8085it will tingleתְּצִלֶּ֖ינָהte.tzi.Lei.nahH6750.

12In that dayבַּיּ֤וֹםbai.YomH3117I will carryאָקִ֣ים'a.KimH6965out againstאֶל־'el-H413Eliעֵלִ֔י'e.LiH5941allכָּל־kol-H3605that I have spokenדִּבַּ֖רְתִּיdi.Bar.tiH1696concerningאֶל־'el-H413his houseבֵּית֑וֹbei.ToH1004,from beginningהָחֵ֖לha.ChelH2490to endוְכַלֵּֽה׃ve.kha.LehH3615.

13ForI have toldוְהִגַּ֣דְתִּיve.hi.Gad.tiH5046him that I am about to judgeשֹׁפֵ֥טsho.FetH8199his houseבֵּית֖וֹbei.ToH1004foreverעַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769forthe iniquityבַּעֲוֹ֣ןba.'a.VonH5771whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he knewיָדַ֗עya.Da'H3045,becauseH3588his sonsבָּנָ֔יוba.NavH1121broughtH7043a curseמְקַֽלְלִ֤יםme.ka.LimH7043on themselvesH1992andhe did not rebukeכִהָ֖הkhi.HahH3543them.

14Thereforeוְלָכֵ֥ןve.la.KhenH3651I have swornנִשְׁבַּ֖עְתִּיnish.Ba'.tiH7650to the houseלְבֵ֣יתle.VeitH1004of Eliעֵלִ֑י'e.LiH5941thatthe iniquityעֲוֹ֧ן'a.VonH5771of Eli’sעֵלִ֛י'e.LiH5941houseבֵּית־beit-H1004shall not be atonedיִתְכַּפֵּ֞רyit.ka.PerH3722for by sacrificeבְּזֶ֥בַחbe.Ze.vachH2077or offeringוּבְמִנְחָ֖הu.ve.min.ChahH4503foreverעַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃'ad- o.LamH5704 H5769.”

15So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050layH7901downH7901untilעַד־'ad-H5704morningהַבֹּ֔קֶרha.Bo.kerH1242. Then heopenedוַיִּפְתַּ֖חvai.yif.TachH6605the doorsדַּלְת֣וֹתdal.TotH1817of the houseבֵּית־beit-H1004of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068.But Samuelוּשְׁמוּאֵ֣לu.she.mu.'ElH8050was afraidיָרֵ֔אya.Re'H3372to tellמֵהַגִּ֥ידme.ha.GidH5046the visionהַמַּרְאָ֖הha.mar.'AhH4759to Eliעֵלִֽי׃'e.LiH5941.

16Then Eliעֵלִי֙'e.LiH5941calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050and saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֣לshe.mu.'ElH8050,my sonבְּנִ֑יbe.NiH1121.”And he saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “HereH2009I am.”

17He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “Whatמָ֤הmahH4100is the wordהַדָּבָר֙ha.da.VarH1697that He spokeדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696to you? Pleaseנָ֥אna'H4994do not hideתְכַחֵ֖דte.kha.ChedH3582it from me.May Godאֱלֹהִים֙'E.lo.HimH430doיַעֲשֶׂה־ya.'a.seh-H6213soכֹּ֣הkohH3541to you, and moreיוֹסִ֔יףyo.SifH3254alsoוְכֹ֣הve.KhohH3541,ifאִם־'im-H518you hideתְּכַחֵ֤דte.kha.ChedH3582anythingדָּבָ֔רda.VarH1697from me of allמִכָּל־mi.kolH3605the wordsהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697that He spokeדִּבֶּ֥רdi.BerH1696to you.”

18So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050toldוַיַּגֶּד־vai.ya.ged-H5046him everythingכָּל־kol-H3605and hidכִחֵ֖דkhi.ChedH3582nothingוְלֹ֥אve.Lo'H3808from him. And he saidוַיֹּאמַ֕רvai.yo.MarH559, “It is the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068;let Him doיַעֲשֶֽׂה׃ פya.'a.SehH6213whatH2896seems goodH2896to Him.”

19ThusSamuelשְׁמוּאֵ֑לshe.mu.'ElH8050grewוַיִּגְדַּ֖לvai.yig.DalH1431andthe Lordוַֽיהוָה֙va.Yah.wehH3068was with him andlet noneוְלֹֽא־ מִכָּל־ve.lo'- mi.kolH3808 H3605of his wordsדְּבָרָ֖יוde.va.RavH1697failהִפִּ֥יל אָֽרְצָה׃hi.Pil 'A.re.tzahH5307 H776.

20Allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478from Danמִדָּ֖ןmi.DanH1835even to BeershebaH884knewוַיֵּ֙דַע֙vai.Ye.da'H3045that Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050was confirmedנֶאֱמָ֣ןne.'e.ManH539as a prophetלְנָבִ֖יאle.na.Vi'H5030of the Lordלַיהוָֽה׃la.Yah.wehH3068.

21Andthe Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068appearedלְהֵרָאֹ֣הle.he.ra.'OhH7200againוַיֹּ֥סֶףvai.Yo.sefH3254at Shilohבְשִׁלֹ֑הve.shi.LohH7887,becauseכִּֽי־ki-H3588the Lordיְהוָ֧הYah.wehH3068revealedנִגְלָ֨הnig.LahH1540Himself to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֛לshe.mu.'ElH8050at Shilohבְּשִׁל֖וֹbe.shi.LoH7887by the wordבִּדְבַ֥רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.
