1Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478, “Beholdהִנֵּה֙hi.NehH2009,I have listenedשָׁמַ֣עְתִּיsha.Ma'.tiH8085to your voiceבְקֹֽלְכֶ֔םve.ko.le.KhemH6963in allלְכֹ֥לle.KholH3605that you saidאֲמַרְתֶּ֖ם'a.mar.TemH559to me and I haveappointedוָאַמְלִ֥יךְva.'am.LikhH4427a kingמֶֽלֶךְ׃Me.lekhH4428overעֲלֵיכֶ֖ם'a.lei.KhemH5921you.

2Nowוְעַתָּ֞הve.'a.TahH6258,hereהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009is the kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְ׀ha.Me.lekhH4428walkingמִתְהַלֵּ֣ךְmit.ha.LekhH1980beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֗םlif.nei.KhemH6440you, butI amH2204oldזָקַ֣נְתִּיza.Kan.tiH2204and grayוָשַׂ֔בְתִּיva.Sav.tiH7867,and beholdהִנָּ֣םhi.NamH2009my sonsוּבָנַ֖יu.va.NaiH1121are with you. AndI have walkedהִתְהַלַּ֣כְתִּיhit.ha.Lakh.tiH1980beforeלִפְנֵיכֶ֔םlif.nei.KhemH6440you from my youthמִנְּעֻרַ֖יmi.ne.'u.RaiH5271evenעַד־'ad-H5704to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

3HereH2009I am; bearH6030witnessH6030against me beforeH5048the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068andHis anointedמְשִׁיח֗וֹme.shi.ChoH4899.Whoseמִ֨יmiH4310oxשׁוֹר֩׀shOrH7794have I takenלָקַ֜חְתִּיla.Kach.tiH3947,or whoseמִ֣יmiH4310donkeyוַחֲמ֧וֹרva.cha.MorH2543have I takenלָקַ֗חְתִּיla.Kach.tiH3947,or whomמִ֤יmiH4310have I defraudedעָשַׁ֙קְתִּי֙'a.Shak.tiH6231?Whomמִ֣יmiH4310have I oppressedרַצּ֔וֹתִיra.Tzo.tiH7533, orfrom whoseמִי֙miH4310handוּמִיַּד־u.mi.yad-H3027have I takenלָקַ֣חְתִּיla.Kach.tiH3947a bribeכֹ֔פֶרKho.ferH3724to blindוְאַעְלִ֥יםve.'a'.LimH5956my eyesעֵינַ֖י'ei.NaiH5869with it? I will restoreוְאָשִׁ֖יבve.'a.ShivH7725it to you.”

4They saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, “You have not defraudedעֲשַׁקְתָּ֖נוּ'a.shak.Ta.nuH6231us or oppressedרַצּוֹתָ֑נוּra.tzo.Ta.nuH7533us or takenלָקַ֥חְתָּla.Kach.taH3947anythingמְאֽוּמָה׃me.'U.mahH3972from anyH376man’sH376handמִיַּד־mi.yad-H3027.”

5He saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “The Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068is witnessעֵ֧ד'edH5707against you, and His anointedמְשִׁיחוֹ֙me.shi.ChoH4899is witnessוְעֵ֤דve.'EdH5707thisהַזֶּ֔הha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֣וֹםhai.YomH3117thatyou have foundמְצָאתֶ֛םme.tza.TemH4672nothingלֹ֧א מְא֑וּמָהlo' me.'U.mahH3808 H3972in my handבְּיָדִ֖יbe.ya.DiH3027.”And they saidוַיֹּ֖אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “He iswitnessעֵֽד׃ פ'EdH5707.”

6Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971, “It is the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068whoאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834appointedעָשָׂה֙'a.SahH6213Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872and Aaronאַהֲרֹ֔ן'a.ha.RonH175and whoוַאֲשֶׁ֧רva.'a.SherH834broughtהֶעֱלָ֛הhe.'e.LahH5927your fathersאֲבֹתֵיכֶ֖ם'a.vo.tei.KhemH1up from the landמֵאֶ֥רֶץme.'E.retzH776of Egyptמִצְרָֽיִם׃mitz.Ra.yimH4714.

7So nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258,takeH3320your standH3320,that I may pleadוְאִשָּׁפְטָ֥הve.'i.sha.fe.TahH8199with you beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068concerningH854allכָּל־kol-H3605the righteousH6666actsH6666of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834He didעָשָׂ֥ה'a.SahH6213for you and your fathersאֲבוֹתֵיכֶֽם׃'a.vo.tei.KhemH1.

8WhenH3512Jacobיַעֲקֹ֖בya.'a.KoH3290wentבָּ֥אba'H935into Egyptמִצְרָ֑יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714andyour fathersאֲבֽוֹתֵיכֶם֙'a.vo.tei.KhemH1criedוַיִּזְעֲק֤וּvai.yiz.'a.KuH2199out to the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, thenthe Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֨חvai.yish.LachH7971Mosesמֹשֶׁ֣הmo.ShehH4872and Aaronאַהֲרֹ֗ן'a.ha.RonH175who broughtוַיּוֹצִ֤יאוּvai.yo.Tzi.'uH3318your fathersאֲבֹֽתֵיכֶם֙'a.vo.tei.KhemH1out of Egyptמִמִּצְרַ֔יִםmi.mitz.Ra.yimH4714and settledוַיֹּשִׁב֖וּםvai.yo.shi.VumH3427them in thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088placeבַּמָּק֥וֹםba.ma.KomH4725.

9Butthey forgotוַֽיִּשְׁכְּח֖וּvai.yish.ke.ChuH7911the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068their Godאֱלֹהֵיהֶ֑ם'e.lo.hei.HemH430, soHe soldוַיִּמְכֹּ֣רvai.yim.KorH4376them into the handבְּיַ֣דbe.YadH3027of Siseraסִֽיסְרָא֩si.se.Ra'H5516,captainשַׂר־sar-H8269of the armyצְבָ֨אtze.Va'H6635of Hazorחָצ֜וֹרcha.TzorH2674, andinto the handוּבְיַד־u.ve.yad-H3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֗יםpe.lish.TimH6430andinto the handוּבְיַד֙u.ve.YadH3027of the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of Moabמוֹאָ֔בmo.'AvH4124,and they foughtוַיִּֽלָּחֲמ֖וּvai.yi.la.cha.MuH3898against them.

10They criedוַיִּזְעֲק֤וּvai.yiz.'a.KuH2199out to the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068and saidוַיֹּאמְר֣וּvai.yo.merH559, ‘We have sinnedחָטָ֔אנוּcha.Ta.nuH2398becauseכִּ֤יkiH3588we have forsakenעָזַ֙בְנוּ֙'a.Zav.nuH5800the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068and have servedוַנַּעֲבֹ֥דva.na.'a.VodH5647the Baalsהַבְּעָלִ֖יםha.be.'a.LimH1168and the Ashtarothהָעַשְׁתָּר֑וֹתha.'ash.ta.RotH6252; butnowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258deliverהַצִּילֵ֛נוּha.tzi.Le.nuH5337us from the handsמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of our enemiesH340,and we will serveוְנַעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ve.na.'av.De.kaH5647You.’

11Then the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971Jerubbaalיְרֻבַּ֣עַלye.ru.Ba.'alH3378andBedanבְּדָ֔ןbe.DanH917andJephthahיִפְתָּ֖חyif.TachH3316andSamuelשְׁמוּאֵ֑לshe.mu.'ElH8050,and deliveredוַיַּצֵּ֨לvai.ya.TzelH5337you from the handsמִיַּ֤דmi.YadH3027of your enemiesH340allH4480 H5439aroundH5439,so that you livedוַתֵּשְׁב֖וּva.te.she.VuH3427in securityבֶּֽטַח׃Be.tachH983.

12When you sawוַתִּרְא֗וּva.tir.'UH7200that Nahashנָחָ֞שׁna.ChashH5176the kingמֶ֣לֶךְMe.lekhH4428of the sonsבְּנֵֽי־be.nei-H1121of Ammonעַמּוֹן֮'a.mOnH5983cameבָּ֣אba'H935againstעֲלֵיכֶם֒'a.lei.KhemH5921you, you saidוַתֹּ֣אמְרוּva.To.me.ruH559to me, ‘Noלֹ֕אlo'H3808,but a kingמֶ֖לֶךְMe.lekhH4428shall reignיִמְלֹ֣ךְyim.LokhH4427overעָלֵ֑ינוּ'a.Lei.nuH5921us,’although the Lordוַיהוָ֥הva.Yah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶ֖ם'e.lo.hei.KhemH430wasyour kingמַלְכְּכֶֽם׃mal.ke.KhemH4428.

13Nowוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258therefore,hereהִנֵּ֥הhi.NehH2009is the kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428whomH4310you have chosenבְּחַרְתֶּ֖םbe.char.TemH977,whomH4310you have askedשְׁאֶלְתֶּ֑םshe.'el.TemH7592for, and beholdוְהִנֵּ֨הve.hi.NehH2009,the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068has setנָתַ֧ןna.TanH5414a kingמֶֽלֶךְ׃Me.lekhH4428overעֲלֵיכֶ֖ם'a.lei.KhemH5921you.

14Ifאִם־'im-H518you will fearתִּֽירְא֣וּti.re.'UH3372the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּ֤םva.'a.vad.TemH5647Him, and listenוּשְׁמַעְתֶּ֣םu.she.ma'.TemH8085to His voiceבְּקֹל֔וֹbe.ko.LoH6963and not rebelתַמְר֖וּtam.RuH4784againstH854thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068,then bothגַּם־gam-H1571you and alsoוְגַם־ve.gam-H1571the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834reignsמָלַ֣ךְma.LakhH4427overעֲלֵיכֶ֔ם'a.lei.KhemH5921you will followאַחַ֖ר'a.CharH310the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֵיכֶֽם׃'e.lo.hei.KhemH430.

15Ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you will not listenתִשְׁמְעוּ֙tish.me.'UH8085to the voiceבְּק֣וֹלbe.KolH6963of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but rebelוּמְרִיתֶ֖םu.me.ri.TemH4784againstH854thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, thenthe handיַד־yad-H3027of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068will be against you, as it wasagainst your fathersוּבַאֲבֹתֵיכֶֽם׃u.va.'a.vo.tei.KhemH1.

16Evenגַּם־gam-H1571nowעַתָּה֙'a.TahH6258,takeH3320your standהִתְיַצְּב֣וּhit.ya.tze.VuH3320and seeוּרְא֔וּu.re.'UH7200thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088greatהַגָּד֖וֹלha.ga.DolH1419thingהַדָּבָ֥רha.da.VarH1697whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068will doעֹשֶׂ֖ה'o.SehH6213before your eyesלְעֵינֵיכֶֽם׃le.'ei.nei.KhemH5869.

17Is it not the wheatחִטִּים֙chi.TimH2406harvestקְצִיר־ke.tzir-H7105todayהַיּ֔וֹםhai.YomH3117?I will callאֶקְרָא֙'ek.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,that He may sendוְיִתֵּ֥ןve.yi.TenH5414thunderקֹל֖וֹתko.LotH6963and rainוּמָטָ֑רu.ma.TarH4306.Then you will knowוּדְע֣וּu.de.'UH3045and seeוּרְא֗וּu.re.'UH7200thatyour wickednessH7463is greatרַבָּה֙ra.BahH7227whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834you have doneעֲשִׂיתֶם֙'a.si.TemH6213in the sightבְּעֵינֵ֣יbe.'ei.NeiH5869of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068by askingלִשְׁא֥וֹלlish.'olH7592for yourselves a kingמֶֽלֶךְ׃ סMe.lekhH4428.”

18So Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050calledוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068sentוַיִּתֵּ֧ןvai.yi.TenH5414thunderקֹלֹ֥תko.LotH6963and rainוּמָטָ֖רu.ma.TarH4306that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117; andallכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֥םha.'AmH5971greatlyמְאֹ֛דme.'OdH3966fearedוַיִּירָ֨אvai.yi.Ra'H3372the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068and Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃she.mu.'ElH8050.

19Then allכָל־khol-H3605the peopleהָעָ֜םha.'AmH5971saidוַיֹּאמְר֨וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050, “Prayהִתְפַּלֵּ֧לhit.pa.LelH6419for your servantsעֲבָדֶ֛יךָ'a.va.Dei.khaH5650to the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,so that we may not dieנָמ֑וּתna.MutH4191,for we have addedיָסַ֤פְנוּya.Saf.nuH3254to allכָּל־kol-H3605our sinsחַטֹּאתֵ֙ינוּ֙cha.to.Tei.nuH2403thisevilH7463by askingלִשְׁאֹ֥לlish.'OlH7592for ourselves a kingמֶֽלֶךְ׃ סMe.lekhH4428.”

20Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֤לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971, “Do not fearתִּירָ֔אוּti.Ra.'uH3372.You have committedעֲשִׂיתֶ֔ם'a.si.TemH6213allכָּל־kol-H3605thisH2088evilH7463,yetאַ֗ךְ'AkhH389do not turnתָּס֙וּרוּ֙ta.Su.ruH5493asideH5493from followingמֵאַחֲרֵ֣יme.'a.cha.ReiH310the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,but serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּ֥םva.'a.vad.TemH5647the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068with allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605your heartלְבַבְכֶֽם׃le.vav.KhemH3824.

21You must not turnתָּס֑וּרוּta.Su.ruH5493asideH5493, for then you would goafterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310futileH8414thingsH8414whichאֲשֶׁ֧ר'a.SherH834can not profitיוֹעִ֛ילוּyo.'I.luH3276or deliverיַצִּ֖ילוּya.Tzi.luH5337,becauseH3588they are futileH8414.

22Forthe Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068will not abandonיִטֹּ֤שׁyi.ToshH5203His peopleעַמּ֔וֹa.MoH5971on accountבַּעֲב֖וּרba.'a.VurH5668of His greatהַגָּד֑וֹלha.ga.DolH1419nameשְׁמ֣וֹshe.MoH8034,becauseH3588the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068has been pleasedהוֹאִ֣ילho.'IlH3190 H2974to makeלַעֲשׂ֥וֹתla.'a.SotH6213you a peopleלְעָֽם׃le.'AmH5971for Himself.

23Moreoverגַּ֣םgamH1571, as for me,farחָלִ֤ילָהcha.Li.lahH2486be it from me that I should sinמֵחֲטֹ֣אme.cha.To'H2398against the Lordלַֽיהוָ֔הla.Yah.wehH3068by ceasingמֵחֲדֹ֖לme.cha.DolH2308to prayלְהִתְפַּלֵּ֣לle.hit.pa.LelH6419for you; butI will instructוְהוֹרֵיתִ֣יve.ho.rei.TiH3384you in the goodהַטּוֹבָ֖הha.to.VahH2896and rightוְהַיְשָׁרָֽה׃ve.hay.sha.RahH3477wayבְּדֶ֥רֶךְbe.De.rekhH1870.

24Onlyאַ֣ךְ׀'akhH389fearיְר֣אוּye.R.'uH3372the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068and serveוַעֲבַדְתֶּ֥םva.'a.vad.TemH5647Him in truthבֶּאֱמֶ֖תbe.'e.MetH571with allבְּכָל־be.kholH3605your heartלְבַבְכֶ֑םle.vav.KhemH3824;for considerרְא֔וּre.'UH7200whatאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834greatהִגְדִּ֖לhig.DilH1431thingsH1431He has doneH1431for you.

25But ifוְאִם־ve.'im-H518you stillH7489doH7489wickedlyH7489,bothH1571you and your kingמַלְכְּכֶ֖םmal.ke.KhemH4428will be sweptתִּסָּפֽוּ׃ פti.sa.FuH5595awayH5595.”
