1Then Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346wentוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to Shechemשְׁכֶ֑םshe.KhemH7927,for allכָל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478had comeבָּ֥אba'H935toShechemשְׁכֶ֛םshe.KhemH7927to makeלְהַמְלִ֥יךְle.ham.LikhH4427him kingH4427.

2Nowwhen JeroboamH3379the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָ֗טne.VatH5028heardכִּשְׁמֹ֣עַ׀kish.Mo.a'H8085of it,he was livingוַיֵּ֥שֶׁבvai.Ye.shevH3427in Egyptבְמִצְרַ֔יִםve.mitz.Ra.yimH4714(for he was yetעוֹדֶ֣נּוּo.De.nuH5750in Egyptבְּמִצְרָֽיִם׃be.mitz.Ra.yimH4714,whereאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had fledבָּרַ֔חba.RachH1272from the presenceמִפְּנֵ֖יmi.pe.NeiH6440of Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֑הshe.lo.MohH8010).

3Then they sentוַֽיִּשְׁלְחוּ֙vai.yish.le.ChuH7971and calledוַיִּקְרְאוּ־vai.yik.re.'u-H7121him, and Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the assemblyקְהַ֣לke.HalH6951of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.vo.'u'H935and spokeוַֽיְדַבְּר֔וּvay.da.be.RuH1696to Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346,sayingלֵאמֹֽר׃le.MorH559,

4“Your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1madeH7185our yokeעֻלֵּ֑נוּ'u.Le.nuH5923hardהִקְשָׁ֣הhik.ShahH7185;nowעַתָּ֣ה'a.TahH6258therefore lightenהָקֵל֩ha.KelH7043the hardהַקָּשָׁ֗הha.ka.ShahH7186serviceמֵעֲבֹדַ֨תme.'a.vo.DatH5656of your fatherאָבִ֜יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1and his heavyהַכָּבֵ֛דha.ka.VedH3515yokeוּמֵעֻלּ֧וֹu.me.'u.LoH5923whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834he putנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414on us, and we will serveוְנַעַבְדֶֽךָּ׃ve.na.'av.De.kaH5647you.”

5Then he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Departלְכ֥וּle.KhuH1980for threeשְׁלֹשָׁ֥הshe.lo.ShahH7969daysיָמִ֖יםya.MimH3117,then returnוְשׁ֣וּבוּve.Shu.vuH7725to me.” So the peopleהָעָֽם׃ha.'AmH5971departedוַיֵּלְכ֖וּvai.ye.le.KhuH1980.

6Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֗םre.chav.'AmH7346consultedוַיִּוָּעַ֞ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289with the eldersהַזְּקֵנִים֙ha.ze.ke.NimH2205whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834hadH1961servedעֹמְדִ֗ים פְּנֵי֙'o.me.Dim pe.NeiH5975 H6440his fatherאָבִ֔יו'a.VivH1Solomonשְׁלֹמֹ֣הshe.lo.MohH8010while he was still aliveחַ֖יchaiH2416,sayingלֵאמֹ֑רle.MorH559, “Howאֵ֚יךְ'eikhH349do you counselנֽוֹעָצִ֔יםno.'a.TzimH3289meto answerלְהָשִׁ֥יב דָּבָֽר׃le.ha.Shiv da.VarH7725 H1697thisהַזֶּ֖הha.ZehH2088peopleהָֽעָם־ha.'om-H5971?”

7Then they spokeוַיְדַבְּר֨וּvay.da.berH1696to him, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you will be a servantעֶ֜בֶד'E.vedH5650to thisהַזֶּה֙ha.ZehH2088peopleלָעָ֤םla.'AmH5971todayהַ֠יּוֹםHai.yomH3117,and will serveוַֽעֲבַדְתָּ֔םva.'a.vad.TamH5647them andgrantH6030them their petitionH6030,and speakוְדִבַּרְתָּ֥ve.di.bar.TaH1696goodטוֹבִ֑יםto.VimH2896wordsדְּבָרִ֣יםde.va.RimH1697to them, then they will be your servantsעֲבָדִ֖ים'a.va.DimH5650foreverכָּל־ הַיָּמִֽים׃kol- hai.ya.MimH3605 H3117.”

8But he forsookוַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛בvai.ya.'a.ZoH5800the counselעֲצַ֥ת'a.TzatH6098of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֖יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205whichH834they had givenיְעָצֻ֑הוּye.'a.Tzu.huH3289him, and consultedוַיִּוָּעַ֗ץvai.yi.va.'AtzH3289with the youngהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206menH3206whoH834grewגָּדְל֣וּga.de.LuH1431up with himand servedהָעֹמְדִ֖ים לְפָנָֽיו׃ha.'o.me.Dim le.fa.NavH5975 H6440him.

9So he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to them, “Whatמָ֚הmahH4100counselנֽוֹעָצִ֔יםno.'a.TzimH3289do you giveH3289that we may answerוְנָשִׁ֥יב דָּבָ֖רve.na.Shiv da.VarH7725 H1697thisהַזֶּ֑הha.ZehH2088peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834have spokenדִּבְּר֤וּdi.be.RuH1696to me, sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘Lightenהָקֵל֙ha.KelH7043the yokeהָעֹ֔לha.'OlH5923whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834your fatherאָבִ֖יךָ'a.Vi.khaH1putנָתַ֥ןna.TanH5414on us’?”

10The youngהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206menH3206whoאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834grewגָּדְל֣וּga.de.LuH1431up with him spokeוַיְדַבְּר֣וּvay.da.be.RuH1696to him, sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559, “ThusH3541you shall sayתֹאמַ֣רto.MarH559to thisהַזֶּ֡הha.ZehH2088peopleלָעָ֣םla.'AmH5971whoאֲשֶׁר֩'a.SherH834spokeדִּבְּר֨וּdi.be.RuH1696to you, sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘Your fatherאָבִ֙יךָ֙'a.Vi.khaH1madeH3513our yokeעֻלֵּ֔נוּ'u.Le.nuH5923heavyהִכְבִּ֣ידhikh.BidH3513,now you makeH7043it lighterH7043for us!’ But you shall speakתְּדַבֵּ֣רte.da.BerH1696to them, ‘My littleקָֽטָנִּ֥יka.ta.NiH6995fingerH6995is thickerעָבָ֖ה'a.VahH5666thanH4480my father’sאָבִֽי׃'a.ViH1loinsמִמָּתְנֵ֥יmi.ma.te.NeiH4975!

11Whereasוְעַתָּ֗הve.'a.TahH6258my fatherאָבִי֙'a.ViH1loadedהֶעְמִ֤יסhe'.MisH6006you with a heavyכָּבֵ֔דka.VedH3515yokeעֹ֣ל'olH5923,I will addאוֹסִ֣יף'o.SifH3254to your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֑ם'u.le.KhemH5923;my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1disciplinedיִסַּ֤רyi.SarH3256you with whipsבַּשּׁוֹטִ֔יםba.sho.TimH7752,but I will disciplineאֲיַסֵּ֥ר'a.ya.SerH3256you with scorpionsבָּעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ba.'ak.ra.BimH6137.’”

12Then Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֧םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379and allוְכָל־ve.kholH3605the peopleהָעָ֛םha.'AmH5971cameוַיָּב֨וֹאvai.ya.vov'H935to Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֖םre.chav.'AmH7346on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִׁ֑יha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117as the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428haddirectedדִּבֶּ֤רdi.BerH1696,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Returnשׁ֥וּבוּShu.vuH7725to me on the thirdהַשְּׁלִישִֽׁי׃ha.she.li.ShiH7992dayבַּיּ֥וֹםbai.YomH3117.”

13The kingהַמֶּ֛לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428answeredוַיַּ֧עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030the peopleהָעָ֖םha.'AmH5971harshlyקָשָׁ֑הka.ShahH7186,for he forsookוַֽיַּעֲזֹ֛בvai.ya.'a.ZoH5800the adviceעֲצַ֥ת'a.TzatH6098of the eldersהַזְּקֵנִ֖יםha.ze.ke.NimH2205whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834they hadgivenיְעָצֻֽהוּ׃ye.'a.Tzu.huH3289him,

14and he spokeוַיְדַבֵּ֣רvay.da.BerH1696to them according to the adviceכַּעֲצַ֤תka.'a.TzatH6098of the youngהַיְלָדִים֙hay.la.DimH3206menH3206,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “My fatherאָבִי֙'a.ViH1madeH3513your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֔ם'u.le.KhemH5923heavyהִכְבִּ֣ידhikh.BidH3513,but I will addאֹסִ֣יף'o.SifH3254to your yokeעֻלְּכֶ֑ם'u.le.KhemH5923;my fatherאָבִ֗י'a.ViH1disciplinedיִסַּ֤רyi.SarH3256you with whipsבַּשּׁוֹטִ֔יםba.sho.TimH7752,but I will disciplineאֲיַסֵּ֥ר'a.ya.SerH3256you with scorpionsבָּעַקְרַבִּֽים׃ba.'ak.ra.BimH6137.”

15So the kingהַמֶּ֖לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428did not listenשָׁמַ֥עsha.Ma'H8085to the peopleהָעָ֑םha.'AmH5971;for it was a turnסִבָּה֙si.BahH5438of eventsfrom the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,that He might establishהָקִ֣יםha.KimH6965His wordדְּבָר֗וֹde.va.RoH1697,whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068spokeדִּבֶּ֤רdi.BerH1696throughבְּיַד֙be.YadH3027Ahijahאֲחִיָּ֣ה'a.chi.YahH281the Shiloniteהַשִּׁילֹנִ֔יha.shi.lo.NiH7888to Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֖םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379the sonבֶּן־ben-H1121of Nebatנְבָֽט׃ne.VatH5028.

16When allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478sawthat the kingהַמֶּלֶךְ֮ha.me.leKhH4428did not listenשָׁמַ֣עsha.Ma'H8085to them, the peopleהָעָ֣םha.'AmH5971answeredוַיָּשִׁ֣בוּvai.ya.Shi.vuH7725the kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,sayingלֵאמֹ֡רle.MorH559, “Whatמַה־mah-H4100portionחֵ֨לֶקChe.lekH2506do we have in Davidבְּדָוִ֜דbe.da.VidH1732? We havenoH3808inheritanceנַחֲלָ֣הna.cha.LahH5159in the sonבְּבֶן־be.ven-H1121of Jesseיִשַׁ֗יyi.ShaiH3448;To your tentsלְאֹהָלֶ֙יךָ֙le.'o.ha.Lei.khaH168,O Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478!Nowעַתָּ֕ה'a.TahH6258lookH7200after your own houseבֵיתְךָ֖vei.te.KhaH1004,Davidדָּוִ֑דda.VidH1732!”So Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478departedוַיֵּ֥לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980to their tentsלְאֹהָלָֽיו׃le.'o.ha.LavH168.

17Butas for the sonsוּבְנֵ֣יu.ve.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478who livedהַיֹּשְׁבִ֖יםhai.yo.she.VimH3427in the citiesבְּעָרֵ֣יbe.'a.ReiH5892of Judahיְהוּדָ֑הye.hu.DahH3063,Rehoboamרְחַבְעָֽם׃ פre.chav.'AmH7346reignedוַיִּמְלֹ֥ךְvai.yim.LokhH4427overעֲלֵיהֶ֖ם'a.lei.HemH5921them.

18Then Kingהַמֶּ֣לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֗םre.chav.'AmH7346sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֞חvai.yish.LachH7971Adoramאֲדֹרָם֙'a.do.RamH151,whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834was overעַל־'al-H5921the forcedהַמַּ֔סha.MasH4522laborH4522,and allכָל־khol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֥לYis.ra.'ElH3478stonedוַיִּרְגְּמ֨וּvai.yir.ge.MuH7275himto deathוַיָּמֹ֑תvai.ya.MotH4191.And Kingוְהַמֶּ֣לֶךְve.ha.Me.lekhH4428Rehoboamרְחַבְעָ֗םre.chav.'AmH7346madeH553hasteH553to mountלַעֲל֣וֹתla.'a.LotH5927his chariotבַּמֶּרְכָּבָ֔הba.mer.ka.VahH4818to fleeלָנ֖וּסla.NusH5127to Jerusalemיְרוּשָׁלִָֽם׃ye.ru.sha.LimH3389.

19So Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478has been in rebellionוַיִּפְשְׁע֤וּvai.yif.she.'UH6586against the houseבְּבֵ֣יתbe.VeitH1004of Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732to thisהַזֶּֽה׃ סha.ZehH2088dayהַיּ֥וֹםhai.YomH3117.

20It cameH1961about when allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478heardכִּשְׁמֹ֤עַkish.Mo.a'H8085that Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֔םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379had returnedשָׁ֣בshavH7725,that they sentוַֽיִּשְׁלְח֗וּvai.yish.le.ChuH7971and calledוַיִּקְרְא֤וּvai.yik.re.'UH7121him to the assemblyהָ֣עֵדָ֔הha.'e.DahH5712and madeH4427him kingוַיַּמְלִ֥יכוּvai.yam.Li.khuH4427overעַל־'al-H5921allכָּל־kol-H3605Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.Noneלֹ֤אlo'H3808but the tribeשֵֽׁבֶט־she.vet-H7626of Judahיְהוּדָ֖הye.hu.DahH3063followedאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310the houseבֵית־veit-H1004of Davidדָּוִ֔דda.VidH1732.
