1Now beholdוְהִנֵּ֣ה׀ve.hi.NehH2009,there cameבָּ֧אba'H935a manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godאֱלֹהִ֗ים'E.lo.HimH430from Judahמִיהוּדָ֛הmi.hu.DahH3063to BethelH1008by the wordבִּדְבַ֥רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068,while Jeroboamוְיָרָבְעָ֛םve.ya.ra.ve.'AmH3379was standingעֹמֵ֥ד'o.MedH5975by the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַha.miz.Be.achH4196to burnH6999incenseH6999.
2He criedוַיִּקְרָ֤אvai.yik.Ra'H7121againstH5921the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ha.miz.Be.achH4196by the wordבִּדְבַ֣רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “O altarמִזְבֵּ֣חַmiz.Be.achH4196,altarמִזְבֵּ֔חַmiz.Be.achH4196,thusכֹּ֖הkohH3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, ‘Beholdהִנֵּֽה־hi.neh-H2009,a sonבֵ֞ןvenH1121shall be bornנוֹלָ֤דno.LadH3205to the houseלְבֵית־le.veit-H1004of Davidדָּוִד֙da.VidH1732,Josiahיֹאשִׁיָּ֣הוּyo.shi.Ya.huH2977by nameשְׁמ֔וֹshe.MoH8034;and on you he shall sacrificeוְזָבַ֣חve.za.VachH2076the priestsכֹּהֲנֵ֤יko.ha.NeiH3548of the highהַבָּמוֹת֙ha.ba.mOtH1116placesH1116who burnH6999incenseH6999on you, and humanאָדָ֖ם'a.DamH120bonesוְעַצְמ֥וֹתve.'atz.MotH6106shall be burnedיִשְׂרְפ֥וּyis.re.FuH8313on you.’”
3Then he gaveוְנָתַן֩ve.na.TanH5414asignמוֹפֵת֙mo.FetH4159the sameהַה֤וּאha.Hu'H1931dayבַּיּ֨וֹםbai.YomH3117,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Thisזֶ֣הzehH2088is thesignהַמּוֹפֵ֔תha.mo.FetH4159whichאֲשֶׁ֖ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068has spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696, ‘Beholdהִנֵּ֤הhi.NehH2009,the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ha.miz.Be.achH4196shall be splitH7167apartנִקְרָ֔עnik.Ra'H7167and theashesהַדֶּ֥שֶׁןha.De.shenH1880whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834are on it shall be pouredוְנִשְׁפַּ֖ךְve.nish.PakhH8210out.’”
4Now when the kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428heardכִשְׁמֹ֨עַkhish.Mo.a'H8085the sayingדְּבַ֣רde.VarH1697of the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,whichאֲשֶׁ֨ר'a.SherH834he criedקָרָ֤אka.Ra'H7121againstH5921the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ha.miz.Be.achH4196in BethelH1008,Jeroboamיָרָבְעָ֧םya.ra.ve.'AmH3379stretchedוַיִּשְׁלַ֨חvai.yish.LachH7971out his handיָד֛וֹya.DoH3027from the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֖חַha.miz.Be.achH4196,sayingלֵאמֹ֣ר׀le.MorH559, “Seizeתִּפְשֻׂ֑הוּtif.Su.huH8610him.” But his handיָדוֹ֙ya.DoH3027whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he stretchedשָׁלַ֣חsha.LachH7971out againstH5921him driedוַתִּיבַ֤שׁva.ti.VashH3001up, so that he couldיָכֹ֖לya.KholH3201not drawH7725it backלַהֲשִׁיבָ֥הּla.ha.shi.VahH7725to himself.
5The altarוְהַמִּזְבֵּ֣חַve.ha.miz.Be.achH4196also was splitH7167apartנִקְרָ֔עnik.Ra'H7167and theashesהַדֶּ֖שֶׁןha.De.shenH1880were pouredוַיִּשָּׁפֵ֥ךְvai.yi.sha.FekhH8210out from the altarהַמִּזְבֵּ֑חַha.miz.Be.achH4196, according to thesignכַּמּוֹפֵ֗תka.mo.FetH4159whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430had givenנָתַ֛ןna.TanH5414by the wordבִּדְבַ֥רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.
6The kingהַמֶּ֜לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶר׀vai.Yo.merH559to the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, “Pleaseנָ֞אna'H4994entreatחַל־chal-H2470the Lordיְהוָ֤הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶ֙יךָ֙'e.lo.Hei.khaH430,and prayוְהִתְפַּלֵּ֣לve.hit.pa.LelH6419for me, that my handיָדִ֖יya.DiH3027may be restoredוְתָשֹׁ֥בve.ta.ShoH7725to me.” Sothe manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430entreatedוַיְחַ֤לvay.ChalH2470the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and the king’sהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428handיַד־yad-H3027was restoredוַתָּ֤שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725to him, and it becameוַתְּהִ֖יva.te.HiH1961as it was beforeכְּבָרִֽאשֹׁנָֽה׃ke.va.Ri.sho.NahH7223.
7Then the kingהַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ha.Me.lekhH4428saidוַיְדַבֵּ֤רvay.da.BerH1696to the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430, “Comeבֹּאָה־bo.'ah-H935homeהַבַּ֖יְתָהha.Bay.tahH1004with me and refreshוּֽסְעָ֑דָהu.se.'A.dahH5582yourself, andI will giveוְאֶתְּנָ֥הve.'e.te.NahH5414you a rewardמַתָּֽת׃ma.TatH4991.”
8But the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָֽאֱלֹהִים֙ha.'E.lo.HimH430saidוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428, “Ifאִם־'im-H518you were to giveתִּתֶּן־ti.ten-H5414me halfחֲצִ֣יcha.TziH2677your houseבֵיתֶ֔ךָvei.Te.khaH1004I would not goאָבֹ֖א'a.Vo'H935with you, norH3808would I eatאֹ֤כַל'O.khalH398breadלֶ֙חֶם֙le.chemH3899or drinkאֶשְׁתֶּה־'esh.teh-H8354waterמַּ֔יִםMa.yimH4325in thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088placeבַּמָּק֖וֹםba.ma.KomH4725.
9For soכֵ֣ן׀khenH3651it was commandedצִוָּ֣הtzi.VahH6680me by the wordבִּדְבַ֤רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, ‘You shall eatתֹ֥אכַלTo.khalH398noלֹא־lo'-H3808breadלֶ֖חֶםLe.chemH3899,norוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808drinkתִשְׁתֶּה־tish.teh-H8354waterמָּ֑יִםMa.yimH4325,norוְלֹ֣אve.Lo'H3808returnתָשׁ֔וּבta.ShuvH7725by the wayבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834you cameהָלָֽכְתָּ׃ha.La.khe.taH1980.’”

11Nowan oldזָקֵ֔ןza.KenH2205prophetוְנָבִ֤יאve.na.Vi'H5030was livingיֹשֵׁ֖בyo.ShevH3427in BethelH1008; and hissonsבְנ֡וֹve.NoH1121cameוַיָּב֣וֹאvai.ya.Vo'H935and toldוַיְסַפֶּר־vay.sa.per-H5608him allכָּל־kol-H3605the deedsהַמַּעֲשֶׂ֣הha.ma.'a.SehH4639whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֨ים׀ha.'E.lo.HimH430had doneעָשָׂה֩'a.SahH6213that dayהַיּ֜וֹםhai.YomH3117in BethelH1008;the wordsהַדְּבָרִים֙ha.de.va.RimH1697whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834he had spokenדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696to the kingהַמֶּ֔לֶךְha.Me.lekhH4428,these also they relatedוַֽיְסַפְּר֖וּםvay.sa.pe.RumH5608to their fatherלַאֲבִיהֶֽם׃la.'a.vi.HemH1.
12Their fatherאֲבִיהֶ֔ם'a.vi.HemH1saidוַיְדַבֵּ֤רvay.da.BerH1696to them, “Whichאֵֽי־ זֶ֥ה'ei- zehH335H2088wayהַדֶּ֖רֶךְha.De.rekhH1870did he goהָלָ֑ךְha.LakhH1980?”Now his sonsבָנָ֗יוva.NavH1121had seenוַיִּרְא֣וּvai.yir.'UH7200the wayהַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ha.De.rekhH1870whichאֲשֶׁ֤ר'a.SherH834the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֖אba'H935from Judahמִיהוּדָֽה׃mi.hu.DahH3063had goneהָלַךְ֙ha.laKhH1980.
14So he wentוַיֵּ֗לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980afterאַֽחֲרֵי֙'a.cha.ReiH310the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430and foundוַיִּ֨מְצָאֵ֔הוּvai.Yim.tza.'E.huH4672him sittingיֹשֵׁ֖בyo.ShevH3427underתַּ֣חַתTa.chatH8478an oakהָאֵלָ֑הha.'e.LahH424;and he saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “Are you the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֥אתָBa.taH935from Judahמִֽיהוּדָ֖הmi.hu.DahH3063?”And he saidוַיֹּ֥אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I am.”
16He saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, “I cannotלֹ֥א אוּכַ֛לlo' 'u.KhalH3201H3808returnלָשׁ֥וּבla.ShuvH7725with you, norוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808goוְלָב֣וֹאve.la.Vo'H935with you, norוְלֹֽא־ve.lo'-H3808will I eatאֹ֣כַל'O.khalH398breadלֶ֗חֶםLe.chemH3899or drinkאֶשְׁתֶּ֤ה'esh.TehH8354waterמַ֔יִםMa.yimH4325with you in thisהַזֶּֽה׃ha.ZehH2088placeבַּמָּק֖וֹםba.ma.KomH4725.
17For a commandדָבָ֤רda.VarH1697came to meby the wordבִּדְבַ֣רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068, ‘You shall eatתֹאכַ֣לto.KhalH398noH3808breadלֶ֔חֶםLe.chemH3899,norH3808drinkתִשְׁתֶּ֥הtish.TehH8354waterמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325thereשָׁ֖םshamH8033;do not returnתָשׁ֣וּבta.ShuvH7725by goingלָלֶ֔כֶתla.Le.khetH1980the wayבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870whichאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834you cameהָלַ֥כְתָּha.Lakh.taH1980.’”
18He saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to him, “I alsoגַּם־gam-H1571am a prophetנָבִיא֮na.Vi'H5030likeכָּמוֹךָ֒ka.mo.KhaH3644you, andan angelוּמַלְאָ֡ךְu.mal.'AkhH4397spokeדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696to me by the wordבִּדְבַ֨רbid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068,sayingלֵאמֹ֗רle.MorH559, ‘Bringהֲשִׁבֵ֤הוּha.shi.Ve.huH7725him backH7725with you to your houseבֵּיתֶ֔ךָbei.Te.khaH1004,that he may eatוְיֹ֥אכַלve.Yo.khalH398breadלֶ֖חֶםLe.chemH3899and drinkוְיֵ֣שְׁתְּve.Ye.shetH8354waterמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325.’” Buthe liedכִּחֵ֖שׁki.CheshH3584to him.
20Now it cameוַיְהִ֕יvay.HiH1961about, as they were sittingH3427downH3427at the tableהַשֻּׁלְחָ֑ן פha.shul.ChanH7979,that the wordדְּבַר־de.var-H1697of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068cameוַֽיְהִי֙vay.HiH1961to the prophetהַנָּבִ֖יאha.na.Vi'H5030whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834had broughtH7725him backהֱשִׁיבֽוֹ׃he.shi.VoH7725;
21and he criedוַיִּקְרָ֞אvai.yik.Ra'H7121to the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430whoאֲשֶׁר־'a.Sher-H834cameבָּ֤אba'H935from Judahמִֽיהוּדָה֙mi.hu.DahH3063,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “Thusכֹּ֖הkohH3541saysאָמַ֣ר'a.MarH559the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068, ‘Becauseיַ֗עַן כִּ֤יYa.'an kiH3282H3588you havedisobeyedמָרִ֙יתָ֙ma.Ri.taH4784thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and have not observedשָׁמַ֙רְתָּ֙sha.Mar.taH8104the commandmentהַמִּצְוָ֔הha.mitz.VahH4687whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834the Lordיְהוָ֥הYah.wehH3068your Godאֱלֹהֶֽיךָ׃'e.lo.Hei.khaH430commandedצִוְּךָ֖tzi.ve.KhaH6680you,
22but have returnedוַתָּ֗שָׁבva.Ta.shovH7725and eatenוַתֹּ֤אכַלva.To.khalH398breadלֶ֙חֶם֙le.chemH3899and drunkוַתֵּ֣שְׁתְּva.Te.shetH8354waterמַ֔יִםMa.yimH4325in the placeבַּמָּקוֹם֙ba.ma.kOmH4725of whichאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834He saidדִּבֶּ֣רdi.BerH1696to you, “Eatתֹּ֥אכַלTo.khalH398noאַל־'al-H408breadלֶ֖חֶםLe.chemH3899and drinkתֵּ֣שְׁתְּTe.shetH8354noוְאַל־ve.'al-H408waterמָ֑יִםMa.yimH4325”;your bodyנִבְלָתְךָ֖niv.la.te.KhaH5038shall not comeתָב֥וֹאta.Vo'H935to the graveקֶ֥בֶרKe.verH6913of your fathersאֲבֹתֶֽיךָ׃'a.vo.Tei.khaH1.’”
23It cameוַיְהִ֗יvay.HiH1961about afterאַחֲרֵ֛י'a.cha.ReiH310he had eatenאָכְל֥וֹ'a.khe.LoH398breadלֶ֖חֶםLe.chemH3899and afterוְאַחֲרֵ֣יve.'a.cha.ReiH310he had drunkשְׁתוֹת֑וֹshe.to.ToH8354,that he saddledוַיַּחֲבָשׁ־vai.ya.cha.vosh-H2280the donkeyהַחֲמ֔וֹרha.cha.MorH2543for him, for the prophetלַנָּבִ֖יאla.na.Vi'H5030whomאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834he had broughtH7725backהֱשִׁיבֽוֹ׃he.shi.VoH7725.
24Now when he had goneוַיֵּ֕לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980,a lionH743metוַיִּמְצָאֵ֧הוּvai.yim.tza.'E.huH4672him on the wayבַּדֶּ֖רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870and killedוַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּvay.mi.Te.huH4191him, and his bodyנִבְלָתוֹ֙niv.la.ToH5038was thrownמֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶתmush.Le.khetH7993on the roadבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870,with the donkeyוְהַחֲמוֹר֙ve.ha.cha.mOrH2543standingעֹמֵ֣ד'o.MedH5975besideאֶצְלָ֔הּ'etz.LahH681it; the lionH743also was standingעֹמֵ֖ד'o.MedH5975besideאֵ֥צֶל'E.tzelH681the bodyהַנְּבֵלָֽה׃ha.ne.ve.LahH5038.
25And beholdוְהִנֵּ֧הve.hi.NehH2009,menH376passedעֹבְרִ֗ים'oe.RimH5674by and sawוַיִּרְא֤וּvai.yir.'UH7200the bodyהַנְּבֵלָה֙ha.ne.ve.LahH5038thrownמֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶתmush.Le.khetH7993on the roadבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870,and the lionH743standingעֹמֵ֖ד'o.MedH5975besideאֵ֣צֶל'E.tzelH681the bodyהַנְּבֵלָ֑הha.ne.ve.LahH5038;so they cameוַיָּבֹ֙אוּ֙vai.ya.Vo.'uH935and toldוַיְדַבְּר֣וּvay.da.be.RuH1696itin the cityבָעִ֔ירva.'IrH5892whereאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834the oldהַזָּקֵ֖ןha.za.KenH2205prophetהַנָּבִ֥יאha.na.Vi'H5030livedיֹשֵׁ֥בyo.ShevH3427.
26Now when the prophetהַנָּבִיא֮ha.na.Vi'H5030whoאֲשֶׁ֣ר'a.SherH834broughtH7725him backהֱשִׁיב֣וֹhe.shi.VoH7725from the wayהַדֶּרֶךְ֒ha.de.reKhH1870heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֣עvai.yish.Ma'H8085it,he saidוַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙vai.Yo.merH559, “It is the manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֣יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,whoאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834disobeyedמָרָ֖הma.RahH4784thecommandפִּ֣יpiH6310of the Lordיְהוָ֑הYah.wehH3068;therefore the Lordיְהוָ֜הYah.wehH3068has givenוַיִּתְּנֵ֨הוּvai.yi.te.Ne.huH5414him to the lionH743,which has tornוַֽיִּשְׁבְּרֵ֙הוּ֙vai.yish.be.Re.huH7665him and killedוַיְמִתֵ֔הוּvay.mi.Te.huH4191him, according to the wordכִּדְבַ֥רkid.VarH1697of the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068whichאֲשֶׁ֥ר'a.SherH834He spokeדִּבֶּר־di.ber-H1696to him.”
28He wentוַיֵּ֗לֶךְvai.Ye.lekhH1980and foundוַיִּמְצָ֤אvai.yim.Tza'H4672his bodyנִבְלָתוֹ֙niv.la.ToH5038thrownמֻשְׁלֶ֣כֶתmush.Le.khetH7993on the roadבַּדֶּ֔רֶךְba.De.rekhH1870with the donkeyוַֽחֲמוֹר֙va.cha.mOrH2543and the lionH743standingעֹמְדִ֖ים'o.me.DimH5975besideאֵ֣צֶל'E.tzelH681the bodyהַנְּבֵלָ֑הha.ne.ve.LahH5038;the lionH743had not eatenאָכַ֤ל'a.KhalH398the bodyהַנְּבֵלָ֔הha.ne.ve.LahH5038norH3808tornשָׁבַ֖רsha.VarH7665the donkeyהַחֲמֽוֹר׃ha.cha.MorH2543.
29So the prophetהַנָּבִ֜יאha.na.Vi'H5030tookוַיִּשָּׂ֨אvai.yi.Sa'H5375up the bodyנִבְלַ֧תniv.LatH5038of the manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֛יםha.'E.lo.HimH430and laidוַיַּנִּחֵ֥הוּvai.ya.ni.Che.huH5117it on the donkeyהַחֲמ֖וֹרha.cha.MorH2543and broughtH7725it backוַיְשִׁיבֵ֑הוּvay.shi.Ve.huH7725,and he cameוַיָּבֹ֗אvai.ya.Vo'H935to the cityעִיר֙'irH5892of the oldהַזָּקֵ֔ןha.za.KenH2205prophetהַנָּבִ֣יאha.na.Vi'H5030to mournלִסְפֹּ֖דlis.PodH5594and to buryוּלְקָבְרֽוֹ׃u.le.ka.ve.RoH6912him.
31Afterאַחֲרֵ֣י'a.cha.ReiH310he had buriedקָבְר֣וֹka.ve.RoH6912him, he spokeוַיֹּ֤אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559to his sonsבָּנָיו֙ba.NavH1121,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559, “When I dieH4191,buryוּקְבַרְתֶּ֣םu.ke.var.TemH6912me in the graveבַּקֶּ֕בֶרba.Ke.verH6913in whichאֲשֶׁ֛ר'a.SherH834the manאִ֥ישׁ'ishH376of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430is buriedקָב֣וּרka.VurH6912;layהַנִּ֖יחוּha.Ni.chuH5117my bonesעַצְמֹתָ֔יו'atz.mo.TavH6106besideאֵ֚צֶל'E.tzelH681his bonesעַצְמֹתָֽי׃'atz.mo.TaiH6106.
