1And the menאַנְשֵׁ֣י׀'an.SheiH582of Kirjath–jearimH7157cameוַיָּבֹ֜אוּvai.ya.Vo.'uH935,and fetched upוַֽיַּעֲלוּ֙vai.ya.'a.LuH5927the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068,and broughtוַיָּבִ֣אוּvai.ya.Vi.'uH935it into the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Abinadabאֲבִינָדָ֖ב'a.vi.na.DavH41in the hillבַּגִּבְעָ֑הba.giv.'AhH1389,and sanctifiedקִדְּשׁ֔וּki.de.ShuH6942Eleazarאֶלְעָזָ֤ר'el.'a.ZarH499his sonבְּנוֹ֙be.NoH1121to keepלִשְׁמֹ֖רlish.MorH8104the arkאֲר֥וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ פYah.wehH3068.

2And it came to pass, whileמִיּ֞וֹםmi.YomH3117the arkהָֽאָרוֹן֙ha.'a.rOnH727abodeשֶׁ֤בֶתShe.vetH3427in Kirjath–jearimH7157,that the timeהַיָּמִ֔יםhai.ya.MimH3117was longוַיִּרְבּוּ֙vai.yir.BuH7235;for it was twentyעֶשְׂרִ֣ים'es.RimH6242yearsשָׁנָ֑הsha.NahH8141:and all the houseבֵּ֥יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478lamentedוַיִּנָּה֛וּvai.yi.na.HuH5091afterאַחֲרֵ֥י'a.cha.ReiH310the Lordיְהוָֽה׃ סYah.wehH3068.

3And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050spakeוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto all the houseבֵּ֣יתbeitH1004of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֮Yis.ra.'ElH3478,sayingלֵאמֹר֒le.MorH559,If ye do returnשָׁבִים֙sha.VimH7725unto the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068with all your heartsלְבַבְכֶ֗םle.vav.KhemH3824, thenput awayהָסִ֜ירוּha.Si.ruH5493the strangeהַנֵּכָ֛רha.ne.KharH5236godsאֱלֹהֵ֧י'e.lo.HeiH430and Ashtarothוְהָעַשְׁתָּר֑וֹתve.ha.'ash.ta.RotH6252from amongמִתּוֹכְכֶ֖םmi.tokh.KhemH8432you, and prepareוְהָכִ֨ינוּve.ha.Khi.nuH3559your heartsלְבַבְכֶ֤םle.vav.KhemH3824unto the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068,and serveוְעִבְדֻ֣הוּve.'iv.Du.huH5647him only: and he will deliverוְיַצֵּ֥לve.ya.TzelH5337you out of the handמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃pe.lish.TimH6430.

4Then the childrenבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478did put awayוַיָּסִ֙ירוּ֙vai.ya.Si.ruH5493Baalimהַבְּעָלִ֖יםha.be.'a.LimH1168and Ashtarothהָעַשְׁתָּרֹ֑תha.'ash.ta.RotH6252,and servedוַיַּעַבְד֥וּvai.ya.'av.DuH5647the Lordיְהוָ֖הYah.wehH3068only.

5And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050saidוַיֹּ֣אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Gatherקִבְצ֥וּkiv.TzuH6908all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478to MizpehH4708,and I will prayוְאֶתְפַּלֵּ֥לve.'et.pa.LelH6419for you unto the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068.

6And they gathered togetherוַיִּקָּבְצ֣וּvai.yi.ka.ve.TzuH6908to MizpehH4709,and drewוַיִּֽשְׁאֲבוּ־vai.yish.'a.vu-H7579waterמַ֜יִםMa.yimH4325, and poured itoutוַֽיִּשְׁפְּכ֣וּ׀vai.yish.pe.KhuH8210beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Lordיְהוָ֗הYah.wehH3068,and fastedוַיָּצ֙וּמוּ֙vai.ya.Tzu.muH6684on that dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117,and saidוַיֹּ֣אמְרוּvai.Yo.me.ruH559there, We have sinnedחָטָ֖אנוּcha.Ta.nuH2398against the Lordלַיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068.And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֛לshe.mu.'ElH8050judgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּ֧טvai.yish.PotH8199the childrenבְּנֵ֥יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478in MizpehH4708.

7And when the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֣וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085that the childrenבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478were gathered togetherהִתְקַבְּצ֤וּhit.ka.be.TzuH6908to MizpehH4708,the lordsסַרְנֵֽי־sar.nei-H5633of the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםfe.lish.TimH6430went upוַיַּעֲל֥וּvai.ya.'a.LuH5927against Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.And when the childrenבְּנֵ֣יbe.NeiH1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478heardוַֽיִּשְׁמְעוּ֙vai.yish.me.'UH8085it,they were afraidוַיִּֽרְא֖וּvai.yir.'UH3372ofמִפְּנֵ֥יmi.pe.NeiH6440the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּֽים׃fe.lish.TimH6430.

8And the childrenבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּאמְר֤וּvai.yo.me.RuH559to Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֔לshe.mu.'ElH8050,Ceaseתַּחֲרֵ֣שׁta.cha.ReshH2790not to cryמִזְּעֹ֖קmi.ze.'OkH2199unto the Lordיְהוָ֣הYah.wehH3068our Godאֱלֹהֵ֑ינוּ'e.lo.Hei.nuH430for us, that he will saveוְיֹשִׁעֵ֖נוּve.yo.shi.'E.nuH3467us out of the handמִיַּ֥דmi.YadH3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּֽים׃pe.lish.TimH6430.

9And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֗לshe.mu.'ElH8050tookוַיִּקַּ֣חvai.yi.KachH3947aאֶחָ֔ד'e.ChadH259suckingחָלָב֙cha.LavH2461lambטְלֵ֤הte.LehH2924,and offeredוַיַּעֲלֵ֧הוּvai.ya.'a.le.huH5927it fora burnt offeringעוֹלָ֛הo.LahH5930whollyכָּלִ֖ילka.LilH3632unto the Lordלַֽיהוָ֑הla.Yah.wehH3068:and Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֤לshe.mu.'ElH8050criedוַיִּזְעַ֨קvai.yiz.'AkH2199unto the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068for Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478;and the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068heardוַֽיַּעֲנֵ֖הוּvai.ya.'a.Ne.huH6030him.

10And as Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050was offering upמַעֲלֶ֣הma.'a.LehH5927the burnt offeringהָעוֹלָ֔הha.'o.LahH5930,the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֣יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430drew nearנִגְּשׁ֔וּni.ge.ShuH5066to battleלַמִּלְחָמָ֖הla.mil.cha.MahH4421against Israelבְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לbe.Yis.ra.'ElH3478:but the Lordיְהוָ֣ה׀Yah.wehH3068thunderedוַיַּרְעֵ֣םvai.yar.'EmH7481with a greatגָּ֠דוֹלGa.dolH1419thunderבְּקוֹל־be.kol-H6963on that dayבַּיּ֨וֹםbai.YomH3117upon the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּים֙pe.lish.TimH6430,and discomfitedוַיְהֻמֵּ֔םvay.hu.MemH2000them; and they were smittenוַיִּנָּגְפ֖וּvai.yi.na.ge.FuH5062beforeלִפְנֵ֥יlif.NeiH6440Israelיִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃Yis.ra.'ElH3478.

11And the menאַנְשֵׁ֤י'an.SheiH582of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478went outוַיֵּ֨צְא֜וּvai.Ye.tze.'UH3318of Mizpehהַמִּצְפָּ֔הha.mitz.PahH4709,and pursuedוַֽיִּרְדְּפ֖וּvai.yir.de.FuH7291the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430,and smoteוַיַּכּ֕וּםvai.ya.KumH5221them, until they cameunder Beth–carH1033.

12Then Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֜לshe.mu.'ElH8050tookוַיִּקַּ֨חvai.yi.KachH3947aאַחַ֗ת'a.ChatH259stoneאֶ֣בֶן'E.venH68,and setוַיָּ֤שֶׂםvai.Ya.semH7760itbetween Mizpehהַמִּצְפָּה֙ha.mitz.PahH4709and Shenהַשֵּׁ֔ןha.ShenH8129,and calledוַיִּקְרָ֥אvai.yik.Ra'H7121the nameשְׁמָ֖הּshe.MahH8034of it Eben–ezerH72,sayingוַיֹּאמַ֕רvai.yo.MarH559,Hitherto hath the Lordיְהוָֽה׃Yah.wehH3068helpedעֲזָרָ֥נוּ'a.za.Ra.nuH5826us.

13So the Philistinesהַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםha.pe.lish.TimH6430were subduedוַיִּכָּֽנְעוּ֙vai.yi.ka.ne.'UH3665,and they cameלָב֖וֹאla.Vo'H935no moreיָסְפ֣וּya.se.FuH3254into the coastבִּגְב֣וּלbig.VulH1366of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478:and the handיַד־yad-H3027of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068was against the Philistinesבַּפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםba.pe.lish.TimH6430all the daysיְמֵ֥יye.MeiH3117of Samuelשְׁמוּאֵֽל׃she.mu.'ElH8050.

14And the citiesהֶעָרִ֡יםhe.'a.RimH5892which the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּים֩fe.lish.TimH6430had takenלָֽקְחוּ־la.ke.chu-H3947from Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֤ל׀Yis.ra.'ElH3478were restoredוַתָּשֹׁ֣בְנָהva.ta.Shoe.nahH7725to Israelלְיִשְׂרָאֵל֙le.Yis.ra.'ElH3478,from Ekronמֵעֶקְר֣וֹןme.'ek.RonH6138even unto Gathגַּ֔תGatH1661;and the coastsגְּבוּלָ֔ןge.vu.LanH1366thereof did Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478deliverהִצִּ֥ילhi.TzilH5337out of the handsמִיַּ֣דmi.YadH3027of the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֑יםpe.lish.TimH6430.And there was peaceשָׁל֔וֹםsha.LomH7965between Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478and the Amoritesהָאֱמֹרִֽי׃ha.'e.mo.RiH567.

15And Samuelשְׁמוּאֵל֙she.mu.'ElH8050judgedוַיִּשְׁפֹּ֤טvai.yish.PotH8199Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478all the daysיְמֵ֥יye.MeiH3117of his lifeחַיָּֽיו׃chai.YavH2416.

16And he wentוְהָלַ֗ךְve.ha.LakhH1980fromמִדֵּ֤יmi.DeiH1767yearשָׁנָה֙sha.NahH8141to yearבְּשָׁנָ֔הbe.sha.NahH8141in circuitוְסָבַב֙ve.sa.VavH5437to Beth–elH1008,and Gilgalוְהַגִּלְגָּ֖לve.ha.gil.GalH1537,and Mizpehוְהַמִּצְפָּ֑הve.ha.mitz.PahH4709,and judgedוְשָׁפַט֙ve.sha.FatH8199Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478in all those placesהַמְּקוֹמ֖וֹתha.me.ko.MotH4725.

17And his returnוּתְשֻׁבָת֤וֹu.te.shu.va.ToH8666wasto Ramahהָרָמָ֙תָה֙ha.ra.Ma.tahH7414; for there washis houseבֵּית֔וֹbei.ToH1004;and there he judgedשָׁפָ֣טsha.FatH8199Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478;and there he builtוַיִּֽבֶן־vai.yi.ven-H1129an altarמִזְבֵּ֖חַmiz.Be.achH4196unto the Lordלַֽיהוָֽה׃ פla.Yah.wehH3068.
