1And the wordדְבַר־de.var-H1697of Samuelשְׁמוּאֵ֖לshe.mu.'ElH8050came to all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֑לYis.ra.'ElH3478.Now Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֩Yis.ra.'ElH3478went outוַיֵּצֵ֣אvai.ye.Tze'H3318againstH7125the Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֜יםpe.lish.TimH6430to battleלַמִּלְחָמָ֗הla.mil.cha.MahH4421,and pitchedוַֽיַּחֲנוּ֙vai.ya.cha.NuH2583beside Eben–ezerH72:and the Philistinesוּפְלִשְׁתִּ֖יםu.fe.lish.TimH6430pitchedחָנ֥וּcha.NuH2583in Aphekבַאֲפֵֽק׃va.'a.FekH663.
2And the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֜יםfe.lish.TimH6430put themselves in arrayוַיַּעַרְכ֨וּvai.ya.'ar.KhuH6186againstH7125Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֗לYis.ra.'ElH3478:and when they joinedוַתִּטֹּשׁ֙va.ti.ToshH5203battleהַמִּלְחָמָ֔הha.mil.cha.MahH4421,Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478was smittenוַיִּנָּ֥גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֑יםfe.lish.TimH6430:and they slewוַיַּכּ֤וּvai.ya.KuH5221of the armyבַמַּֽעֲרָכָה֙va.ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634in the fieldבַּשָּׂדֶ֔הba.sa.DehH7704about fourכְּאַרְבַּ֥עַתke.'ar.Ba.'atH702thousandאֲלָפִ֖ים'a.la.FimH505menאִֽישׁ׃'IshH376.
3And when the peopleהָעָם֮ha.'AmH5971were comeוַיָּבֹ֣אvai.ya.Vo'H935into the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶה֒ha.ma.cha.NehH4264,the eldersזִקְנֵ֣יzik.NeiH2205of Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֔לYis.ra.'ElH3478saidוַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559,Wherefore hath the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068smittenנְגָפָ֧נוּne.ga.Fa.nuH5062us to dayהַיּ֖וֹםhai.YomH3117beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֑יםfe.lish.TimH6430?Let us fetchנִקְחָ֧הnik.ChahH3947the arkאֲרוֹן֙'a.rOnH727of the covenantבְּרִ֣יתbe.RitH1285of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068out of Shilohמִשִּׁלֹ֗הmi.shi.LohH7887unto us, that, when it comethוְיָבֹ֣אve.ya.Vo'H935amongבְקִרְבֵּ֔נוּve.kir.Be.nuH7130us, it may saveוְיֹשִׁעֵ֖נוּve.yo.shi.'E.nuH3467us out of the handמִכַּ֥ףmi.KafH3709of our enemiesאֹיְבֵֽינוּ׃'o.ye.Vei.nuH341.
4So the peopleהָעָם֙ha.'AmH5971sentוַיִּשְׁלַ֤חvai.yish.LachH7971to Shilohשִׁלֹ֔הshi.LohH7887,that they might bringוַיִּשְׂא֣וּvai.yis.'UH5375from thence the arkאֲר֧וֹן'a.RonH727of the covenantבְּרִית־be.rit-H1285of the Lordיְהוָ֛הYah.wehH3068of hostsצְבָא֖וֹתtze.va.'otH6635,which dwellethיֹשֵׁ֣בyo.ShevH3427betweenthe cherubimsהַכְּרֻבִ֑יםha.ke.ru.VimH3742:and the twoשְׁנֵ֣יshe.NeiH8147sonsבְנֵֽי־ve.nei-H1121of Eliעֵלִ֗י'e.LiH5941,Hophniחָפְנִ֖יcha.fe.NiH2652and Phinehasוּפִֽינְחָֽס׃u.Fi.ne.ChasH6372, werethere with the arkאֲרוֹן֙'a.rOnH727of the covenantבְּרִ֣יתbe.RitH1285of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.
5And when the arkאֲר֤וֹן'a.RonH727of the covenantבְּרִית־be.rit-H1285of the Lordיְהוָה֙Yah.wehH3068cameכְּב֨וֹאke.Vo'H935into the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֔הha.ma.cha.NehH4264,all Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478shoutedוַיָּרִ֥עוּvai.ya.Ri.'uH7321with a greatגְדוֹלָ֑הge.do.LahH1419shoutתְּרוּעָ֣הte.ru.'AhH8643,so that the earthהָאָֽרֶץ׃ha.'A.retzH776rang againוַתֵּהֹ֖םva.te.HomH1949.
6And when the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּים֙fe.lish.TimH6430heardוַיִּשְׁמְע֤וּvai.yish.me.'UH8085the noiseק֣וֹלKolH6963of the shoutהַתְּרוּעָ֔הha.te.ru.'AhH8643,they saidוַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּvai.Yo.me.RuH559, What meaneththe noiseק֣וֹלKolH6963of this greatהַגְּדוֹלָ֛הha.ge.do.LahH1419shoutהַתְּרוּעָ֧הha.te.ru.'AhH8643in the campבְּמַחֲנֵ֣הbe.ma.cha.NehH4264of the Hebrewsהָעִבְרִ֑יםha.'iv.RimH5680?And they understoodוַיֵּ֣דְע֔וּvai.Ye.de.'UH3045that the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of the Lordיְהוָ֔הYah.wehH3068was comeבָּ֖אba'H935into the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶֽה׃Ha.ma.cha.NehH4264.
7And the Philistinesהַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםha.pe.lish.TimH6430were afraidוַיִּֽרְאוּ֙vai.yir.'UH3372,for they saidאָמְר֔וּ'a.me.RuH559,Godאֱלֹהִ֖ים'E.lo.HimH430is comeבָּ֥אba'H935into the campהַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑הha.ma.cha.NehH4264.And they saidוַיֹּאמְרוּ֙vai.yo.me.RuH559,Woeא֣וֹי'oH188unto us! for there hath not been such a thing heretoforeאֶתְמ֥וֹל שִׁלְשֹֽׁם׃'et.Mol shil.ShomH8032H865.
8Woeא֣וֹי'oH188unto us! who shall deliverיַצִּילֵ֔נוּya.tzi.Le.nuH5337us out of the handמִיַּ֛דmi.YadH3027of these mightyהָאַדִּירִ֖יםha.'a.di.RimH117Godsהָאֱלֹהִ֥יםha.'E.lo.HimH430? these arethe Godsהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430that smoteהַמַּכִּ֧יםha.ma.KimH5221the Egyptiansמִצְרַ֛יִםmitz.Ra.yimH4714with all the plaguesמַכָּ֖הma.KahH4347in the wildernessבַּמִּדְבָּֽר׃ba.mid.BarH4057.
9Be strongהִֽתְחַזְּק֞וּhit.cha.ze.KuH2388,and quitוִֽהְי֤וּvih.YuH1961yourselves like menלַֽאֲנָשִׁים֙la.'a.na.ShimH582,O ye Philistinesפְּלִשְׁתִּ֔יםpe.lish.TimH6430,that ye be not servantsתַּעַבְד֣וּta.'av.DuH5647unto the Hebrewsלָעִבְרִ֔יםla.'iv.RimH5680,as they have beenעָבְד֖וּ'a.ve.DuH5647to you: quitוִהְיִיתֶ֥םvih.yi.TemH1961yourselves like menלַאֲנָשִׁ֖יםla.'a.na.ShimH582,and fightוְנִלְחַמְתֶּֽם׃ve.nil.cham.TemH3898.
10And the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֗יםfe.lish.TimH6430foughtוַיִּלָּחֲמ֣וּvai.yi.la.cha.MuH3898,and Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478was smittenוַיִּנָּ֤גֶףvai.yi.Na.gefH5062,and they fledוַיָּנֻ֙סוּ֙vai.ya.Nu.suH5127every manאִ֣ישׁ'ishH376into his tentלְאֹהָלָ֔יוle.'o.ha.LavH168:and there was a veryמְאֹ֑דme.'OdH3966greatגְּדוֹלָ֣הge.do.LahH1419slaughterהַמַּכָּ֖הha.ma.KahH4347;for there fellוַיִּפֹּל֙vai.yi.PolH5307of Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֔לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478thirtyשְׁלֹשִׁ֥יםshe.lo.ShimH7970thousandאֶ֖לֶף'E.lefH505footmenרַגְלִֽי׃rag.LiH7273.
12And there ranוַיָּ֤רָץvai.Ya.rotzH7323a manאִישׁ־'ish-H376of Benjaminבִּנְיָמִן֙bin.ya.MinH1144out of the armyמֵהַמַּ֣עֲרָכָ֔הme.ha.Ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634,and cameוַיָּבֹ֥אvai.ya.Vo'H935to Shilohשִׁלֹ֖הshi.LohH7887the same dayבַּיּ֣וֹםbai.YomH3117with his clothesוּמַדָּ֣יוu.ma.DavH4055rentקְרֻעִ֔יםke.ru.'ImH7167,and with earthוַאֲדָמָ֖הva.'a.da.MahH127upon his headרֹאשֽׁוֹ׃ro.ShoH7218.
13And when he cameוַיָּב֗וֹאvai.ya.Vo'H935,lo, Eliעֵ֠לִי'E.liH5941satיֹשֵׁ֨בyo.ShevH3427upon a seatהַכִּסֵּ֜אha.ki.Se'H3678by the waysideיַ֥ד דֶּ֙רֶךְ֙yach de.rekhH3197H3027H1870watchingמְצַפֶּ֔הme.tza.PehH6822:for his heartלִבּוֹ֙li.BoH3820trembledחָרֵ֔דcha.RedH2730for the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֑יםha.'E.lo.HimH430.And when the manוְהָאִ֗ישׁve.ha.'IshH376cameבָּ֚אba'H935into the cityבָּעִ֔ירba.'IrH5892,and toldלְהַגִּ֣ידle.ha.GidH5046it,all the cityהָעִֽיר׃ha.'IrH5892cried outוַתִּזְעַ֖קva.tiz.'AkH2199.
14And when Eliעֵלִי֙'e.LiH5941heardוַיִּשְׁמַ֤עvai.yish.Ma'H8085the noiseק֣וֹלKolH6963of the cryingהַצְּעָקָ֔הha.tze.'a.KahH6818,he saidוַיֹּ֕אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559, What meaneththe noiseק֥וֹלKolH6963of this tumultהֶהָמ֖וֹןhe.ha.MonH1995?And the manוְהָאִ֣ישׁve.ha.'IshH376cameוַיָּבֹ֖אvai.ya.Vo'H935in hastilyמִהַ֔רmi.HarH4116,and toldוַיַּגֵּ֥דvai.ya.GedH5046Eliלְעֵלִֽי׃le.'e.LiH5941.
16And the manהָאִ֜ישׁha.'IshH376saidוַיֹּ֨אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559unto Eliעֵלִ֗י'e.LiH5941, I amhe that cameהַבָּ֣אha.Ba'H935out of the armyהַמַּעֲרָכָ֔הha.ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634,and I fledנַ֣סְתִּיNas.tiH5127to dayהַיּ֑וֹםhai.YomH3117out of the armyהַמַּעֲרָכָ֖הha.ma.'a.ra.KhahH4634.And he saidוַיֹּ֛אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,What is there doneהַדָּבָ֖רha.da.VarH1697,my sonבְּנִֽי׃be.NiH1121?
17And the messengerהַֽמְבַשֵּׂ֜רham.va.SerH1319answeredוַיַּ֨עַןvai.Ya.'anH6030and saidוַיֹּ֗אמֶרvai.Yo.merH559,Israelיִשְׂרָאֵל֙Yis.ra.'ElH3478is fledנָ֤סnasH5127beforeלִפְנֵ֣יlif.NeiH6440the Philistinesפְלִשְׁתִּ֔יםfe.lish.TimH6430,and there hath been also a greatגְדוֹלָ֖הge.do.LahH1419slaughterמַגֵּפָ֥הma.ge.FahH4046among the peopleבָעָ֑םva.'AmH5971,and thy twoשְׁנֵ֨יshe.NeiH8147sonsבָנֶ֜יךָva.Nei.khaH1121also, Hophniחָפְנִי֙cha.fe.NiH2652and Phinehasוּפִ֣ינְחָ֔סu.Fin.ChasH6372,are deadמֵ֗תוּMe.tuH4191,and the arkוַאֲר֥וֹןva.'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֖יםha.'E.lo.HimH430is takenנִלְקָֽחָה׃ פnil.Ka.chahH3947.
18And it came to pass, when he made mentionכְּהַזְכִּיר֣וֹ׀ke.haz.ki.RoH2142of the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֗יםha.'E.lo.HimH430,that he fellוַיִּפֹּ֣לvai.yi.PolH5307from off the seatהַ֠כִּסֵּאHa.ki.se'H3678backwardאֲחֹ֨רַנִּ֜ית'a.Cho.ra.NitH322byבְּעַ֣ד׀be.'AdH1157the sideיַ֣דyadH3027of the gateהַשַּׁ֗עַרha.Sha.'arH8179,and his neckמַפְרַקְתּוֹ֙maf.rak.ToH4665brakeוַתִּשָּׁבֵ֤רva.ti.sha.VerH7665,and he diedוַיָּמֹ֔תvai.ya.MotH4191:for he was an oldזָקֵ֥ןza.KenH2204manהָאִ֖ישׁha.'IshH376,and heavyH3513.And he had judgedשָׁפַ֥טsha.FatH8199Israelיִשְׂרָאֵ֖לYis.ra.'ElH3478fortyאַרְבָּעִ֥ים'ar.ba.'ImH705yearsשָׁנָֽה׃sha.NahH8141.
19And his daughter in lawוְכַלָּת֣וֹve.kha.la.ToH3618,Phinehas’פִּינְחָס֮pi.ne.ChasH6372wifeאֵֽשֶׁת־'e.shet-H802,was with childהָרָ֣הha.RahH2030, nearto be deliveredלָלַת֒la.LatH3205:and when she heardוַתִּשְׁמַ֣עva.tish.Ma'H8085the tidingsהַשְּׁמֻעָ֔הha.she.mu.'AhH8052thatאֶל־'el-H413the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430was takenהִלָּקַח֙hi.la.KachH3947,and that her father in lawחָמִ֖יהָcha.Mi.haH2524and her husbandוְאִישָׁ֑הּve.'i.ShahH376were deadוּמֵ֥תu.MetH4191,she bowedוַתִּכְרַ֣עva.tikh.Ra'H3766herself and travailedוַתֵּ֔לֶדva.Te.ledH3205;for her painsצִרֶֽיהָ׃tzi.Rei.haH6735cameנֶהֶפְכ֥וּne.hef.KhuH2015upon her.
20And about the timeוּכְעֵ֣תu.khe.'EtH6256of her deathמוּתָ֗הּmu.TahH4191the women that stoodהַנִּצָּב֣וֹתha.ni.tza.VotH5324by her saidוַתְּדַבֵּ֙רְנָה֙va.te.da.Be.re.nahH1696unto her, Fearתִּֽירְאִ֖יtir.'IH3372not; for thou hast bornיָלָ֑דְתְּya.La.detH3205a sonבֵ֣ןvenH1121.But she answeredעָנְתָ֖ה'a.ne.TahH6030not, neither did she regardשָׁ֥תָה לִבָּֽהּ׃Sha.tah li.BahH3820H7896it.
21And she namedוַתִּקְרָ֣אva.tik.Ra'H7121the childלַנַּ֗עַרla.Na.'arH5288I–chabodH350,sayingלֵאמֹ֔רle.MorH559,The gloryכָב֖וֹדkha.VodH3519is departedגָּלָ֥הga.LahH1540from Israelמִיִּשְׂרָאֵ֑לmi.Yis.ra.'ElH3478:becauseH413the arkאֲר֣וֹן'a.RonH727of Godהָאֱלֹהִ֔יםha.'E.lo.HimH430was takenהִלָּקַח֙hi.la.KachH3947,and because of her father in lawחָמִ֖יהָcha.Mi.haH2524and her husbandוְאִישָֽׁהּ׃ve.'i.ShahH376.
