Judges 1:12-36

And CalebH3612 saidH559, “To the manH834 who strikes downH5221 Kiriath-sepherH7158 and captures itH3920, I will giveH5414 my daughterH1323 AcsahH5915 in marriageH802.” 13So OthnielH6274 sonH1121 of Caleb’sH3612 youngerH6996H4480 brotherH251 KenazH7073 capturedH3920 the city, and Caleb gaveH5414 his daughterH1323 AcsahH5915 to him in marriageH802.

One dayH1961 Acsah cameH935 to Othniel and urged himH54961 to askH7592 her fatherH1 for a fieldH7704. When she got offH6795H5921 her donkeyH2543, CalebH3612 askedH559 her, “WhatH4100 do you desire?”

“GiveH3051 me a blessingH1293,” she answeredH559. “SinceH3588 you have given meH5414 landH776 in the NegevH5045, giveH5414 me springsH1543 of waterH4325 as well.”

So CalebH3612 gaveH5414 her both the upperH5942 and lowerH8482 springsH1543.

Now the descendantsH1121 of MosesH4872’ father-in-lawH2859, the KeniteH7017, went upH5927 withH854 the menH1121 of JudahH3063 from the CityH5892 of PalmsH85582 to the WildernessH4057 of JudahH3063 in the NegevH5045 near AradH6166. They wentH1980 to liveH3427 amongH854 the peopleH5971.

Then the men of JudahH3063 wentH1980 withH854 their brothersH251 the SimeonitesH8095, attackedH5221 the CanaanitesH3669 livingH3427 in ZephathH6857, and devoted the city to destructionH2763.3 So it was calledH7121 HormahH2767.4 18And JudahH3063 also capturedH39205 GazaH5804, AshkelonH831, and EkronH6138—each withH853 its territoryH1366. 19The LORDH3068 wasH1961 withH854 JudahH3063, and they took possessionH3423 of the hill countryH2022; butH3588 they could notH3808 drive outH3423 the inhabitantsH3427 of the plainsH6010 becauseH3588 they had chariotsH7393 of ironH1270.

Just asH834 MosesH4872 had promisedH1696, Judah gaveH5414 HebronH2275 to CalebH3612, who drove outH3423 the descendants of the threeH7969 sonsH1121 of AnakH6061.

The BenjamitesH1121H1144, howeverH853, failed toH3808 drive outH3423 the JebusitesH2983 livingH3427 in JerusalemH3389. So toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117 the JebusitesH2983 liveH3427 there amongH854 the BenjamitesH1121H1144.

The houseH1004 of JosephH3130 alsoH1571H1992 attackedH5927 BethelH1008, and the LORDH3068 was with themH5973. 23They sent spiesH8446 to BethelH1008 (formerlyH6440 known asH8034 LuzH3870), 24and when the spiesH8104 sawH7200 a manH376 coming outH3318 ofH4480 the cityH5892, they saidH559 to him, “PleaseH4994 show usH7200 how to get intoH3996 the cityH5892, and we will treatH6213 youH5973 kindlyH2617.”

So the man showed themH7200 the entranceH3996 to the cityH5892, and they putH5221 the cityH5892 to the swordH6310H2719 but releasedH7971 that manH376 and allH3605 his familyH4940. 26And the manH376 wentH1980 to the landH776 of the HittitesH2850, builtH1129 a cityH5892, and called itH7121H8034 LuzH3870, whichH1931 is its nameH8034 toH5704 thisH2088 dayH3117.

At that time ManassehH4519 failedH3808 to drive out the inhabitantsH3423 of Beth-sheanH1052, TaanachH8590, DorH1756, IbleamH2991, MegiddoH4023, and their villagesH1323; for the CanaanitesH3669 were determinedH2974 to dwellH3427 in thatH2063 landH776. 28WhenH3588 IsraelH3478 became strongerH2388, they pressedH7760 the CanaanitesH3669 into forced laborH4522, but they neverH3808 drove them outH3423 completelyH3423.

EphraimH669 also failedH3808 to drive outH3423 the CanaanitesH3669 livingH3427 in GezerH1507; so the CanaanitesH3669 continued to dwellH3427 among themH7130 in GezerH1507.

ZebulunH2074 failedH3808 to drive outH3423 the inhabitantsH3427 of KitronH7003 and NahalolH5096; so the CanaanitesH3669 livedH3427 among themH7130 and servedH1961 as forced laborersH4522.

AsherH836 failedH3808 to drive outH3423 the inhabitantsH3427 of AccoH5910, SidonH6721, AhlabH303, AchzibH392, HelbahH2462, AphikH663, andH853 RehobH7340. 32So the AsheritesH843 livedH3427 amongH7130 the CanaaniteH3669 inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, becauseH3588 they did notH3808 drive them outH3423.

NaphtaliH5321 failedH3808 to drive outH3423 the inhabitantsH3427 of Beth-shemeshH1053 andH853 Beth-anathH1043. So the Naphtalites also livedH3427 amongH7130 the CanaaniteH3669 inhabitantsH3427 of the landH776, but the inhabitantsH3427 of Beth-shemeshH1053 and Beth-anathH1043 servedH1961 them as forced laborersH4522.

The AmoritesH567 forcedH3905 the DanitesH1121H1835 into the hill countryH2022 andH3588 did notH3808 allow themH5414 to come downH3381 into the plainH6010. 35And the AmoritesH567 were determinedH2974 to dwellH3427 in MountH2022 HeresH2776, AijalonH357, and ShaalbimH8169. But when the houseH1004 of JosephH3130 grewH3513 in strengthH3027, they pressed the AmoritesH1961 into forced laborH4522. 36And the borderH1366 of the AmoritesH567 extended from the AscentH4610 of AkrabbimH46106 to SelaH5554 and beyondH4605.
