Revised Version 1895
Kings 18:4-22
He removedH5493 the highH1116 placesH1116, and brake the pillarsH4676, and cutH3772 downH3772 the AsherahH842: And he brake in piecesH7665 the brasen serpentH5175 that MosesH4872 had madeH6213; for unto thoseH834 daysH3117 the childrenH1121 of IsraelH3478 didH6213 burnH6999 incenseH6999 to it; and he calledH7121 it NehushtanH5180.
He trustedH982 in the LORDH3068, the GodH430 of IsraelH3478; soH1961 that afterH310 him was noneH3808 like him among allH3605 the kingsH4428 of JudahH3063, norH3808 among them that were beforeH6440 him.
For he clave to the LORDH3068, he departedH5493 notH3808 from followingH310 him, but keptH8104 his commandmentsH4687, whichH834 the LORDH3068 commandedH6680 MosesH4872.
And the LORDH3068 was with him; whithersoever he wentH3318 forthH3318 he prospered: and he rebelledH4775 againstH5973 the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, and servedH5647 him notH3808.
He smoteH5221 the PhilistinesH6430 unto GazaH5804 and the bordersH1366 thereof, from the towerH4026 of the watchmenH5341 to the fenced cityH5892.
And it cameH1961 to passH1961 in the fourthH7243 yearH8141 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396, whichH1931 was the seventhH7637 yearH8141 of HosheaH1954 sonH1121 of ElahH425 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, that ShalmaneserH8022 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 cameH1961 upH5927 againstH5921 SamariaH8111, and besieged it.
And at the endH7097 of threeH7969 yearsH8141 they tookH3920 it: even in the sixth yearH8141 of HezekiahH2396, whichH1931 was the ninthH8672 yearH8141 of HosheaH1954 kingH4428 of IsraelH3478, SamariaH8111 was takenH3920.
And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 carriedH1540 IsraelH3478 awayH1540 unto AssyriaH804, and putH5148 them in HalahH2477, and in HaborH2249, on the riverH5104 of GozanH1470, and in the citiesH5892 of the MedesH4074:
becauseH5921 they obeyedH8085 notH3808 the voiceH6963 of the LORDH3068 their GodH430, but transgressed his covenantH1285, evenH3808 allH3605 that MosesH4872 the servantH5650 of the LORDH3068 commandedH6680, and would notH3808 hearH8085 it, norH3808 doH6213 it.
Now in the fourteenth yearH8141 of kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 did SennacheribH5576 kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 comeH5927 upH5927 againstH5921 allH3605 the fenced citiesH5892 of JudahH3063, and tookH8610 them.
And HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 sentH7971 to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 to LachishH3923, sayingH559, I have offendedH2398; returnH7725 from meH413: that whichH834 thou puttest on meH413 will I bearH5375. And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 appointedH5414 unto HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 threeH7969 hundredH3967 talentsH3603 of silverH3701 and thirtyH7970 talentsH3603 of goldH2091.
And HezekiahH2396 gaveH5414 him allH3605 the silverH3701 that was foundH4672 in the houseH1004 of the LORDH3068, and in the treasuresH214 of the king’sH4428 houseH1004.
At that time didH834 HezekiahH2396 cutH7112 offH7112 the gold from the doorsH1817 of the templeH1964 of the LORDH3068, and from the pillars whichH834 HezekiahH2396 kingH4428 of JudahH3063 had overlaidH6823, and gaveH5414 it to the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804.
And the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804 sentH7971 TartanH8661 and Rab-sarisH7249 and RabshakehH7262 from LachishH3923 to kingH4428 HezekiahH2396 with a greatH3515 armyH2426 unto JerusalemH3389. And they wentH935 upH5927 and cameH935 to JerusalemH3389. And when they were comeH935 upH5927, they cameH935 and stoodH5975 by the conduit of the upperH5945 poolH1295, whichH834 is in the highwayH4546 of the fuller’sH3526 fieldH7704.
And when they had calledH7121 to the kingH4428, there cameH3318 outH3318 to them EliakimH471 the sonH1121 of HilkiahH2518, whichH834 was over the householdH1004, and ShebnahH7644 the scribeH5608, and JoahH3098 the sonH1121 of AsaphH623 the recorderH2142.
And RabshakehH7262 saidH559 unto them, SayH559 ye nowH4994 to HezekiahH2396, ThusH3541 saith the greatH1419 kingH4428, the kingH4428 of AssyriaH804, WhatH4100 confidenceH986 is this whereinH834 thou trustest?
Thou sayest, but they are but vain wordsH1697, There is counselH6098 and strengthH1369 for the warH4421. NowH6258 on whomH4310 dost thou trustH982, that thou hast rebelledH4775 againstH5921 meH5921?
NowH6258, beholdH2009, thou trustest uponH5921 the staffH4938 of this bruisedH7533 reedH7070, evenH3651 uponH5921 EgyptH4714; whereon ifH2009 a manH376 leanH5564, it will goH935 intoH935 his handH3709, and pierce it: soH3651 is PharaohH6547 kingH4428 of EgyptH4714 unto allH3605 that trustH982 on him.
But ifH3588 ye sayH559 unto meH413, WeH3588 trustH982 in the LORDH3068 our GodH430: is notH3808 that he, whoseH834 highH1116 placesH1116 and whoseH834 altarsH4196 HezekiahH2396 hath takenH5493 awayH5493, and hath saidH559 to JudahH3063 and to JerusalemH3389, Ye shall worshipH7812 beforeH6440 this altarH4196 in JerusalemH3389?
